The Legendary Coasts of Newfoundland

Want to take a trip of a lifetime? Spend a week in Newfoundland, the large Canadian island off the eastern coast of North American. Newfoundland is known for their puffins, icebergs and whales and I am happy to say, we saw all three, in a lovely, quiet, unspoiled Newfoundland. Yes, even in July, we saw icebergs.

Fishin' and Chillin'

We didn’t know quite what to think as we flew off to Minnesota last January. All the winter clothes we owned were in the suitcase, but nothing prepared us for this northern winter vacation.

It was cold. Really cold. Like 20-degrees-below-zero cold. With wind chill. But the fire in the lobby of the Grand View Lodge, in Nisswa, Minn., welcomed us.

A trip to a non-traditional winter wonderland

Head to the great white north of the upper peninsula of Michigan. Michigan has been in the news quite a bit lately, but the Upper Peninsula or 'UP' (pronounced as individual letters) has managed to stay out of the spotlight. The people of Michigan love the outdoors, and this is taken to the extreme in the norther half of the state.

A city plagued by problems; Detroit is on the up-swing. Being a huge car buff, Detroit is kind of like Mecca to me. I write a weekly car review column and it seems that the cars I tend to most enjoy are the ones that I have the lowest expectations for.
