Exploration Place will host the premier summer event in Kansas, Star Wars: ® Where Science Meets Imagination slated to open May 26, 2012. This blockbuster exhibit will be one of the most renowned exhibits ever featured in the history of Exploration Place. It explores the fantasy technologies in the Star Wars films, the science behind them and the research that may lead to real-life versions of these technologies. Visitors will discover the Star Wars universe through film clips and more than 80 props, models and costumes from the films. The 8,500 square foot exhibit is filled with hands-on exhibits and is organized around two technology themes that solve basic human needs: Getting Around and Robots and People. Getting Around invites visitors to examine modes of transportation from Star Wars including Luke’s original Landspeeder from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Visitors will discover how things move without touching the ground, from models of flying cars to commercial spaceplanes. Other hovercraft from Star Wars will be on display, and visitors will operate a car that floats on a cushion of air. Visitors will also have the opportunity to “jump to lightspeed” aboard a replica of the Millennium Falcon.* Robots and People invite visitors to explore how people relate to robots and droids such as C-3PO and R2-D2. The exhibit features the creation of real world robots that navigate, sense and understand the world around them, while communicating in increasingly sophisticated ways. Visitors can even design their own robot.
