The Kingwood Lady Mustangs golf team recently won the district championship held at Kingwood Lakes course.
Freshman Bella Flores won 1st place medalist with a low score of minus-1 and plus-3 for the two-day tournament. The team advanced to the regional tournament at Gleannloch Pines and won second place to advance to the state championship, which will be held May 10-11 at Legacy Hills in Georgetown. Led by the freshman, they shot their overall best two-day scores of the year with a total of 302-303. Sophomores Kate Hartnett and Morgan Ankenbrandt shot low rounds the last day to help get the Mustangs from third to second place. Senior Katelyn Halseth and junior Kathy Rodriquez provided leadership to get the Mustangs ready for the state tournament. The goal all year was to make the UIL State Championship and they accomplished this goal. Good luck, Lady Mustangs.
