The 2019-20 girls basketball season found some of the area’s top athletes competing at a high level. Here is a list of all-district players from area schools:
Atascocita finished second in District 22-6A with a record of 14-2. The Lady Eagles recorded a 32-6 record overall and advanced to the area round of the playoffs. Elyssa Coleman was named the District 22-6A Most Valuable Player. The District 22-6A Defensive Player of the Year went to Kyleigh McGuire. In addition, both Blake Matthews and Dede Davis earned All-District 22-6A First Team honors. Kori Fenner and Makaylee Duhon were named to the all-district second team.
Huffman Hargrave senior Kylie Willis was named to the All-District 21-4A First Team while senior Amber Worley, junior Marly McCloskey and sophomore Molly McNeil made all-district second team. Seniors Molly McNeil and Laynee Beam and junior Kelly Farrell were named all-district honorable mention for the 30-4 Lady Falcons.
Humble senior Keona Chatman earned All-District 22-6A First Team honors and freshman Kameryn Phillips was named District 22-6A Newcomer of the Year. The Lady Wildcats finished fourth in the district with an 11-5 mark and were 22-9 overall after making an appearance in the bi-district playoffs. Seniors Kazarea Taplin and Jashya Wortham were named to the all-district second team while sophomore Omauria Jackson received all-district honorable mention.
Kingwood’s Savannah Wilson earned All-District 22-6A First Team honors as the Lady Mustangs completed a 7-8 league mark and 10-17 record overall. Kennedy Studdert and Maddie Vanderpool were named to the all-district second team while Marissa Gay, Katelyn Tillis, Avery Gleason and Kylie Nichols all made the all-district honorable mention.
Kingwood Park sophomore Kendall Daniel and freshman Biva Byrd earned All-District 20-5A First Team honors as the Lady Panthers finished in a third-place tie with a 13-5 district record. Kingwood Park posted an 18-16 record overall and made an appearance in the bi-district playoffs. In addition, senior Makayla Bullard was named to the all-district second team, and both senior Chloe Gresham and junior Aliyah Bustamante made all-district honorable mention.
Summer Creek
The Bulldogs won the District 22-6A title with a 15-1 record. Summer Creek completed a 31-5 season, advancing to the Region III-6A Tournament for the third consecutive season. Maliyah Johnson was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 6A All-State Team as well as making the TABC Region III-6A Team along with teammate Mailyn Wilkerson. Adaora Nwokeji and Hillary Broussard were also among the many standouts this season for Summer Creek Head Coach Carlesa Dixon.
