Humble ISD has announced plans to name Cale Melton as the new athletic coordinator and head football coach of Kingwood High School.
Melton currently serves as defensive coordinator for Highland Park High School in Dallas. He has been at the school since 2014. During his time at Highland Park, the team won football state championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Since 2014, the team earned a 66-7 record. In addition to football, Melton has served as a successful powerlifting coach.
Highland Park High School also earned the UIL Lone Star Cup in 2017 and in 2019. The award recognizes the best overall success in academic, athletic and fine arts UIL competition. Highland Park has earned this recognition 11 times. Melton graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Texas, where he was a four-sport letterman. He was a two-time All-American linebacker and two-time All-American track and field performer while attending McMurry University in Abilene. “I’m excited to be at Kingwood High School because of the academic and athletic traditions of the school,” Melton said. “I look forward to building relationships with staff, students and the community.”
Melton will be working on the Kingwood High School campus by April and has already met the football team.
