Kingwood junior point guard Billy Gould is a returning player who is leading the Mustangs in the 2019-20 season.
Last year's District 22-6A Newcomer of the Year after averaging 15 points, four rebounds and three assists during the 2018-19 campaign is picking up where he left off.
At the recent Arlington Martin Tournament, Gould was outstanding as the Mustangs went 2-2 with victories over Ranchview and Lake Ridge to move their record to 5-3 for the season. Gould went 22-for-23 from the free-throw line during the tournament and averaged 18 points and five rebounds over the four games.
Gould scored 21 points in one game and added 19 points and seven rebounds in another before adding four assists, 16 points, six rebounds and a steal in yet another outstanding performance in tournament play.
Gould and the Mustangs then turned it up a notch this past week. Kingwood turned away Cy-Falls and San Antonio Holmes heading into the weekend at the Austin Anderson Classic.
It is all in preparation for the key part of the current season, and that's district play. Kingwood opens the District 22-6A schedule at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts South Houston.
