Humble - Dexter Wyble threw two touchdown passes to Robert Williams and Dontee’ McCrary added a touchdown run to lift Humble to a 24-14 victory over C.E. King in a Region III-6A Division II bi-district playoff game at Turner Stadium.
Williams caught four passes for 171 yards, including touchdown passes of 85 and 57 yards from Wyble, and completed 10 of 16 passes for 239 yards. Juan Escalante tacked on a 34-yard field goal.
The Wildcats, now 9-2 for the season, advance to the area round of the playoffs where they will face George Ranch at 2 p.m. Saturday at the University of Houston.
The District 22-6A champion Eagles improved to 10-1 with a convincing 70-29 victory over Deer Park on Friday at Turner Stadium in a Region III-6A Division I bi-district playoff game. Quarterback Brice Matthews threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to pace the attack. Matthews threw for 247 yards and rushed for another 77.
A.J. Bobb caught two touchdown passes and Quincy Thompson rushed for two more. Dylan Robinson and Deion Brown caught touchdown passes while Tyras Winfield rushed for another. Gavin Sessions threw for one touchdown as well for the Eagles, who advance to the area round of the playoffs to take on Dickinson, a 28-23 winner over Pearland. The playoff game will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in NRG Stadium.
Peyton Pierson and A.J. San Miguel scored three touchdowns apiece as the 11-0 Falcons rolled to a 49-6 victory over Furr at home on Thursday in a bi-district playoff game. Pierson caught four passes for 126 yards, including touchdown passes of 46 and 25 yards from quarterback Justin Shively, who finished with 177 yards passing. Pierson also scored on a 1-yard run while San Miguel added touchdown runs of 2, 11 and 22 yards. Luke Thomas piled on with a 60-yard pick-six.
The Falcons advance to the area round of the playoffs to face Palestine at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bryan High School.
The Mustangs opened the 2019-20 boys’ basketball season at home on Friday with a 66-59 loss to Jersey Village. Kingwood returns junior point guard Billy Gould, junior forward Jake Nichols, senior guard Nick Luckett, senior center Nick Neuman, and senior forward Walker Blaine.
Quarterback Hudson Dezell threw for 142 yards in the Panthers’ 40-14 loss to Friendswood on Friday in a bi-district playoff game. Dezell completed 11 of 17 passes, but the Panthers, who end the 2019 season with a record of 6-5, fell into a 21-0 hole at halftime. J’Kyle Martin caught three passes for 78 yards and Canen Adrian hauled in four passes for 19 yards. The Panthers got second-half touchdown runs of 7 and 2 yards respectively from Brandon Acosta and Juan Garcia.
The defending Region III-6A champion Lady Bulldogs basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a 115-49 victory over Cy-Fair and followed up with a 77-55 victory over Heights. Returning players from last year’s region championship team include Aimee and Adaora Nwokeji, Alayia Francis, Mailyn Wilkerson, Maliyah Johnson, Mariah King and Tyanna Sherman.
