After losing the first two sets, the visiting Kingwood High School Lady Mustangs rallied to win a thrilling district opener Aug. 30 against 6A rival Atascocita High School by a score of 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-17, 15-13).

Junior middle blocker Megan Wilson led the team at the net with 21 kills and four blocks while sophomore middle blocker Sophie Ocampo and senior outside hitter Breanna Burrell added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Wilson also served up three aces. Sophomore Sydney Hicks dished out 25 assists with senior Emily Colby right behind her with 24 assists. Senior libero Lizzy Young led the team with 18 digs while Burrell had 17 digs in the middle back position.

In tournament action the same week, Kingwood beat Tomball Memorial (2-1) before dropping matches to St. Agnes Academy (2-0) and Dawson (2-1) in Thursday play. Kingwood won their matches against Mayde Creek (2-0) and Cypress Falls (2-0) Saturday before losing 2-1 to College Station.
