The eighth annual Kingwood Fallen Heroes Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Sat. July 27 at the Clubs of Kingwood with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
- Event to benefit scholarships, military veterans and families -
This event was originally scheduled for May 11 but was postponed due to inclement weather and poor golfing conditions.
The event will honor three Kingwood young men who died while serving their country in Afghanistan and Iraq: Brandon Bury, Bill Meeuwsen, and Luke Yepsen. Net proceeds will help fund scholarships at Kingwood High School in each of the fallens’ names and benefit a number of tax-exempt charitable organizations who honor and support active military, veterans and their families with special needs.
An entry fee of $700/foursome or $200/individual includes green fees, cart, range balls, lunch and dinner. The tournament begins with registration at 11 a.m. and ends with an awards ceremony. Dinner is provided by BB’s Cafe; there will be a short after-dinner program, raffle, silent auction and music provided throughout the evening by Mickey Hobbs.
The event is open to the public and all golfers and patriots are encouraged to participate. To register, electronic forms can be found at kingwoodfallenheroes.com or call 713-898-6694. Dinner tickets for non-golfers can be purchased for $25 each at the same contact number after July 13.
Scott Mitchell, Kingwood Fallen Heroes founder and tournament chairman, said, “We will forever miss these three young men who gave their lives for our country so we may continue enjoying the many freedoms that come with being an American citizen. This annual event celebrates their strength and courage and continues our promise that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Our community has supported our past efforts and we hope our friends and neighbors will continue that giving spirit that is so reflective of our area. In our first seven years, we have been able to gift over $533,000 to our lead partners and a number of other local groups supporting our mission. The Blue Star Mothers of America, Hope For The Warriors, CreatiVets and Operation Military Embrace all do great work to support our military and our veterans and families and we hope that support will continue in 2019. In addition, everyone has a fun time at a great golf facility.”
