Both the Huffman Hargrave Falcons baseball and softball teams stayed alive in the 2019 playoffs with victories last week.
The Falcons baseball team swept Hardin-Jefferson, 2-1 and 4-0, in a region quarterfinals series, while the Lady Falcons took care of Lorena, 4-2 and 10-0, in a region semifinals series.
Both the baseball and softball teams will face Robinson in the next round of the postseason. Each will play a best-of-three series.
For the baseball team, it will be a 4A Region III semifinals series beginning 7 p.m. Thursday in Madisonville. The series moves to Sam Houston for a 5 p.m. Friday game. A third and deciding game, if necessary, would follow 30 minutes after the second game.
The softball team takes on Robinson in a 4A Region III finals series at Madisonville. The first game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday with the second game scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday. A third game, if necessary, would follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.
Noah Zamora threw a complete game and had two of the Falcons’ seven hits in the series opener against Hardin-Jefferson. The Falcons rallied for two runs in the seventh to win it. Cam Rhodes had two hits and drove in both runs. Micah Hakes threw a complete-game four-hit shutout to complete the sweep. Matthew Dorcz drove in two runs and Rhodes added another RBI.
Bella Reid belted a three-run homer as the Lady Falcons rolled to its sweep. Katy Janes threw a five-inning one-hit shutout, striking out 12, and also drove in two runs. Christin Haygood added two hits and two RBIs. Janes fanned 11 in the series opener with Dez Cardenas collecting two hits. Andrea Hortch and Kenzie Gates each had a hit and an RBI.
