Hargraves’ Janes virtually unhittable
Katy Janes continues to lead the Hargrave Lady Falcons in the postseason.
The junior threw consecutive shutouts, including a perfect game, to lift Hargrave to a 7-0, 6-0 sweep of Sweeny in the area round of the Class 4A State Playoffs. Janes threw a perfect game, striking out 12 in addition to driving in two runs, to complete the sweep. She blanked Sweeny on two hits in the series opener, striking out 16. Alli Humphries collected four hits in the series. Janes has thrown three shutouts, including a no-hitter and a perfect game, in as many games this postseason. The Lady Falcons advance to the region quarterfinals this week to take on District 21-4A foe Livingston.
Hudson Luce threw a complete game, striking out seven, and had one of three Eagles’ hits on Saturday in a 5-4 win over Deer Park in the deciding game of a three-game bi-district playoff series. Clay Bradford and Dylan Ivey drove in two runs each as the Eagles rallied from a 4-1 deficit. The Eagles, winners in 16 of their last 18 games, take on Pearland this week in the area round of the playoffs.
Ian Gilmore will represent Humble at the UIL Class 6A State Meet scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Gilmore qualified for the state meet in the 400-meter dash with the fourth-fastest time in the state, 47.53 seconds.
Both boys’ and girls’ golf teams qualified for the UIL Class 6A State Golf Tournament at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown. The girls’ team will compete May 13-14 for state honors while the boys’ tournament is set for May 20-21. Holden Hamilton, Damin Strydom, Hayes Hamilton, Ty Nicar and Luke Slayton comprise the boys’ team while the girls’ team includes Ryle Cerny, Kaitlyn Charles, Libby Singleton, Kaetlin Halseth and Megan Tragesser.
Elise Parel will represent Kingwood Park at the UIL Class 5A State Golf Tournament, May 13-14 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown. Parel qualified as a medalist by capturing the Region III championship.
Jayden Duplantier had two hits and Nick Frady drove in two runs as the Bulldogs completed a sweep of Beaumont West Brook with a 6-4 win on Friday. Jared Silva and Daniel Garza combined on the mound duties for Summer Creek, which won the opener 10-2 on Thursday with Duplantier driving in three runs on two hits. Anthony Hall had two hits and two RBIs while Dylan Smith added two hits and drove in a run. The Bulldogs take on District 24-6A Champion Clear Springs in the area round of the playoffs this week.
