The Kingwood Mustangs punctuated their 2019 District 22-6A championship season last week with a 21-1 win over Humble. The victory completed a 15-1 run through the district.
For the league-champion Mustangs, it was their fourth consecutive win and 14th victory in their last 15 games. Kingwood, 22-5-2 overall this season, will host Lake Travis at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in a playoff tune-up game.
Masyn Winn earned the victory on the mound against Humble to improve to 7-0 for the season.
Kingwood banged out 20 hits and scored 11 runs in the second inning. Winn helped himself at the plate as well, delivering three hits. Marcelo Ortega also collected three hits and drove in three runs as well.
Carter Amarantos rounded out the trio of Mustangs with a three-hit day while Tre Richardson contributed with three RBIs. Luke Johnson drove in two runs to help the cause.
The Mustangs completely dominated the district, outscoring the opposition 167-16 with Kingwood pitching totaling 10 shutouts along the way.
Trey Dees threw a 12-0 no-hitter at Pasadena and Winn combined with Parker Hemphill to throw a perfect game against South Houston, a game in which Richardson hit for the cycle.
Kingwood’s only loss in district play was a 5-2 setback to a Summer Creek team that has also clinched a playoff spot from District 22-6A along with Atascocita and Pasadena Dobie.
