The Kingwood High School girls soccer team earned its way to a third consecutive regional tournament berth with a 3-1 win over Deer Park Friday, April 5 in a region quarterfinals match at Turner Stadium.
Emma Ebert scored two goals and Catherine Childs added another as Kingwood rolled to its 19th consecutive victory of the season, improving to 23-1-3 overall.
The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 5 in the state by the Texas High School Girls Coaches Association, will take on Cinco Ranch in a Class 6A Region III semifinals match at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Clyde Abshier Stadium in Deer Park.
Cinco Ranch advanced with a 3-1 victory over a Seven Lakes team that handed Kingwood its only loss (3-2) of the season back on Jan. 9.
Atascocita takes on Tompkins in the first region semifinals match at 12:30 p.m. in Abshier Stadium before Kingwood’s game.
The two winners face off for the Region III championship on Saturday, April 13 at 11:30 a.m. with an opportunity to advance to the state tournament Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, in Georgetown.
Kingwood last won a region title in 2004 and won state championships in 1993 and 2002.
