Masyn Winn and Parker Hemphill combined on a perfect game as Kingwood blanked South Houston, 20-0, at home on Friday.
Winn worked three innings, striking out six, while Hemphill threw two innings in a game shortened to five innings by the run-rule. Tre Richardson hit for the cycle and drove in five runs to lead the Mustangs 16-hit attack. The Mustangs extended their win streak to five games, three of those by shutouts and another, a 2-1 win over Atascocita. Kingwood is 6-0 in District 22-6A play.
The Lady Eagles softball team improved to 6-3 in District 22-6A play last week with a 2-0 win over Kingwood. Mikayla Garza tossed the four-hit, complete-game shutout, striking out six. Sophomore Katie Cimusz leads the team in hitting with a .547 batting average. She also has team-highs in hits (29), runs scored (24), RBI (25), doubles (6) and triples (4). Her three home runs are second on the team to freshman Kelsie Kelso with six.
Samantha Umfrid threw a one-hitter and struck out 16 batters in Humble’s 2-1 win over Sam Rayburn at home on Friday. A’Sha Bradford had two hits for the Lady Wildcats while Taelin Bynum, who had one of Humble’s seven hits, and Alyssa Hernandez drove in one run each.
The Falcons scored nine runs in the fourth inning to soar past Shepherd, 14-1, on Friday. Grant O’Neal had two hits and drove in four runs to lead the attack. Matthew Dorcz and Ethan Herrera also had two hits apiece. Herrera threw a five-inning complete game, striking out eight while Justin Shively and Ben Leisure drove in three runs apiece.
Tyler Boutot led the Panthers’ 13-hit attack with three hits of his own while driving in two runs in Kingwood Park’s 7-2 win at New Caney on Saturday. Matthew Burke and Clay Sowell contributed with two hits apiece and both Colton Hopper and Jack Fulton drove in runs.
Dylan Smith delivered three of the Bulldogs’ seven hits and Andre Duplantier tossed a complete-game two-hitter in a 7-1 win over Dobie last week. Duplantier drove in a run and struck out eight in throwing his gem. Anthony Hall added two hits and drove in two runs to help pace the Bulldogs’ attack, which included a hit from Matt Young and a RBI from Kenneth Booker.
