The Kingwood volleyball team began its quest to continue a long streak of consecutive playoff appearances with a 3-0 sweep of Atascocita two weeks ago in the District 22-6A opener.

Despite a rough pre-district schedule that found the Lady Mustangs on the winning side of just four matches in 16 outings, turning things around in district play and adding to 27 straight playoff seasons is the goal.

Brea Burrell delivered 12 kills and Peyton Shamp added 10 more to push past 100 for the season (102) while also collecting 20 digs as Kingwood rolled to a 25-11, 25-20, 25-16 victory over its arch-rivals. Jackie Taylor and Sloane Fitzhenry contributed with seven and six kills respectively.

Camryn Wisenbaker got the offense rolling, handing out 29 assists (team-leading 260 this season), and Jordan Rambo dished out 13 more. Emma Brinsden added 10 digs to add to her team-leading total of 174 for the season.

Senior Camden Gray, who recently committed to Incarnate Word, recorded seven digs, three kills and two blocks as Kingwood dominated at the net. Gray is currently second on the team with 90 kills for the season and leads the team in service aces (20) and blocks (27).

The Lady Mustangs returned to district play when they visited Sam Rayburn on Friday before they hosted South Houston on Tuesday. Kingwood continues league play, taking on Pasadena Memorial, Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Pasadena Phillips Field House before returning home for a Friday, Sept. 7 meeting with Dobie.

All matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
