On March 22, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission awarded Harris County Water Control & Improvement District 96,
which serves much of the Fall Creek community, with a $500,000 Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation Grant for planned improvements to the Fall Creek Sports Complex park. WCID 96 will match the grant with remaining funds from park bonds previously approved by voters, the donation of detention pond land from Escalante--Golf Club of Houston, the donation of easements from the Fall Creek HOA and Redstone Golf Club, and funds from the Fall Creek Management District, Johnson Development, and Harris County MUD 49. Funding for the Local Park Grant Program comes from a portion of the Texas state sales tax on sporting goods. Additional funds come from off- shore gas royalties through the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The highly competitive grant award is particularly welcome news as the Fall Creek Sports Complex continues to recover from Hurricane Harvey which inundated parts of the Sports Complex with over seven feet of water from Greens and Garners Bayou.
WCID 96 plans to use the grant and matching funding to add recreational amenities to the Fall Creek Sports Complex area including a new recreational trail to connect Wilson Road to the entrance of the Fall Creek Sports Complex and rehabilitation of areas damaged by Harvey including the sand volleyball court and replacement of the playground mulch with a rubberized surface
The Fall Creek Sports Complex is located at 9810 Wyatt Shores Drive, within the Fall Creek community.
