The District 21-6A girls’ soccer season is right around the corner and the Kingwood Lady Mustangs are getting prepared.
The team opens district play at 7:30 p.m.
Friday when it hosts Atascocita at Turner Stadium. Kingwood then hits the road for district matches at Goose Creek Memorial (7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7) and Channelview (7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10).
Kingwood tuned up for district play by sweeping all four matches at the Clear Creek ISD Tournament before blanking College Park, 8-0, at Turner Stadium early last week.
The Lady Mustangs closed out the CCISD Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Katy Taylor after hanging a 7-0 score on Clear Creek.
Also, in tournament play, the Lady Mustangs held off Clear Lake, 2-1, avenging a previous 1-0 loss to the Lady Falcons at the Brazos Valley Cup. Back-to-back goals by Colleen Feagins and Alex Dumais (Emma Ebert assist) was enough offense to claim the victory.
Kingwood opened tournament play with a 2-0 victory over Friendswood.
The Lady Mustangs scored early and often on College Park. Ebert scored two minutes into the match with an assist from Feagins. Before it was over, both turned in a hat trick. In addition to her three goals, Feagins added three assists as well.
Kingwood also got additional goals from Dumais and Bailey Herring, and assists from McKenzie Borchers, Cat Childs and Alison Kim.
The focus is now on the district schedule. Kingwood has won or shared the district title in 26 consecutive seasons dating all the way back to 1992.
