It was an up and down weekend for the Kingwood girls’ soccer team. The Lady Mustangs won two lopsided matches at the Brazos Valley Cup, but also suffered their first defeat.

Kingwood improved to 4-1-1 on the season with a 6-0 victory over Beaumont Westbrook on Saturday to close out the event.

Emma Ebert wasted little time in putting Kingwood ahead in the finale, scoring the match’s first goal in the first minute of play with an assist from Abby Anderson. It was Anderson’s assist on a Colleen Feagins goal that lifted the margin to 2-0.

Feagins added another goal before halftime, with an assist from Cat Childs, and then completed the scoring with a free kick goal in the second half.
Ebert scored her second goal of the match just before halftime, assisted by Savannah Moore, and the Lady Mustangs led comfortably, 5-0, at the break.

Ebert assisted on the other first-half goal, scored by Carly Stroud.

Clear Lake handed the Lady Mustangs their first loss of the 2018 season, a 1-0 decision on Friday.

Kingwood opened cup play on Thursday with a 6-0 victory over Concordia. After a slow start, the Lady Mustangs peppered the net for five second-half goals. Alex Dumais scored her first of two goals in the match to give Kingwood a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. She scored again and added an assist during the second-half barrage.

Feagins scored twice and assisted on a goal from Moore. Ebert concluded the scoring with an assist from Moore.

The Lady Mustangs will play in the Clear Creek ISD Tournament, Thursday through Saturday before the 2018 home opener at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, with College Park at Turner Stadium.
