Hurricane Harvey forced cancellation of all weekend athletic events for Humble ISD and leaves this week’s activities in jeopardy as well.

The Kingwood volleyball team was scheduled to visit College Park for a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday match before heading to Orlando, Fla. for the Disney Tournament, Wednesday through Monday.

In addition, the Kingwood Mustangs football season is tentatively scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday against Ridge Point at Hall Stadium.

Games early last week were completed with Kingwood facing The Woodlands in both volleyball and team tennis.

The Lady Mustangs volleyball team fell, 3-0, to the Lady Highlanders. Kingwood got solid efforts from Maddy Salazar, a verbal commit to play beach volleyball at Arizona State, and Emma Brinsden, each with 13 digs. In addition, Courtney Bocock led the team with 30 assists.

The Kingwood team tennis squad dropped a 16-3 decision to the state-ranked Highlanders. The Mustangs are tentatively scheduled to host Deer Park at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and are not scheduled again until a 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 match, hosting Cy-Ranch.
The Mustangs team tennis squad opens district play when they host Atascocita at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too. If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure.
