Colorado School of Mines freshman pole vaulter, Jake Pinkston, was selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Dec. 13.

Pinkston is a Kingwood native and recent graduate of Kingwood High School. In his Mines debut, Pinkston won the pole vault event at the Mines Alumni Classic held Dec. 9. His victory came from vaulting an impressive 5.01m (16-5.25) on his first attempt at that height. The vault is the best this season by any RMAC freshman, and is currently the fourth-best vault nationally. Additionally, Pinkston's vault is tied for the program record set last season by Connor McLean at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

Pinkston is headed home to Kingwood for a well-deserved Christmas break, but returns to action along with the Mines indoor track & field team for the Twilight Invitational Jan. 20-21.

Cutline: Jake Pinkston’s impressive pole vaulting skills are on display at a recent NCAA Division II track and field event.
