Even though it was during the holiday school break, on Jan. 3 several hundred fans turned out to honor Kingwood High School’s legendary basketball coach Royce Huseman in a game halftime ceremony.

A Walker Blaine putback at the buzzer lifted Kingwood to a hard-fought 60-58 victory at Humble early last week. Blaine led the team in scoring with 15 points, but none were bigger than his buzzer beater.

Atascocita: The Lady Eagles soccer team blanked Alief Taylor, 6-0, last week before tying with Klein Collins, 0-0. Victoria Arenivas, Lindsey Davis, Nia Musquiz and Brianna Hoffman all scored goals with assists from Haylli Roe and McKinley Brady.

After opening the District 22-6A season with three consecutive victories, the Lady Wildcats dropped league matches last week to Dobie (50-46) and Summer Creek (71-36). They look to get back to their winning ways this weekend at the DeKaney Tournament.

The Kingwood High School boys basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a pair of District 22-6A victories last week. The latest win was an overtime thriller. It took a last-second three-pointer from Nick Luckett to turn back Dobie, 65-62, in the extra period at home on Friday. It was Luckett's second three-point field goal in overtime.

The Atascocita Eagles football team returned to the fourth round of the playoffs for the first time since 2016 this year, and with that run came a number of major awards for Eagles football players as the 22-6A all-district teams were unveiled two weeks ago.
