Out and About...

Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. It was indeed a “grand old party” at Walden Country Club, as Dan Huberty was cheered by his loyal followers, while the results of the Nov. 2 election streamed in. After 18 months of dedicated campaigning, Dan is officially the State Representative-Elect in House District 127. The four beautiful women in Dan’s life, wife Janet, mom Maureen, daughter Brianna, and campaign coordinator extraordinaire Casey Christman were beaming with pride as Dan accepted congratulations from the 200-plus friends gathered to show their support. The recognition began with prayer, and then congratulations by Constable Ron Hickman and Houston City Councilman Mike Sullivan, and wrapped up with a visit and show of support from Congressman Ted Poe. Faces in the crowd included: Dylan and Ryan Huberty; Tommy Huberty; Doug and Beth Stanley; Theo Christman; Larry Shiflet; Ron and Halene Crossman; Guy Sconzo; Robert Scarfo; Brent Engelage; Dave Martin; Bonnie Longnion; Keith Lapeze; Mary Ann Lapeze; Evelyn Walters; Jim and Diana Rutherford; Bob and Kathy Garlington; Tony Austin; Mike and Barbara Byers; Betty Newton; Anne Wallace. There were a number of Halloween parties throughout the area, proving that we are never too old to dress up and “trick or treat”! Cheryl “CJ” Johnson’s third annual Halloween party was complete with scary monsters on the front porch, fantastic music throughout the evening with our favorite deejay, Mark Linabury, (a very convincing and good-looking Egyptian Pharaoh) and great food, provided by Cherrie Ledoux, a Grand Affair Catering. Unfortunately the “BVD Bomber” did not arrive in time for the costume judging! The winners were: Sexiest Male, Mike Netek (Roman Soldier); Sexiest Female, Denise Krieger as Little Red Riding Hood (I think she wins this category every year!); Funniest Male: Tony Austin who was the “wife” of Continental pilot Cheryl Austin; Scariest Male: Jess Fields. For the third year in a row Richard and Nancy Foisner won categories, Nancy as the Mad Hatter and Richard as the Wicked Witch of the West. Most Original Couple were Jim and Marilyn Harkrider as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Best Couple were Paul and Denise Krieger as Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood. Others of note: Phil Lively (Samurai Warrior) and Sharon Lewis (Geisha); Glen and Alice Rekewegas “Kiss”; Bennie and Gina Remmesas “Plug Set”; Daniel Ledouxin a real World War II uniform; Jim Jette, as a dashingly convincing pirate, and of course, Sarah Palin! Meanwhile the residents of Kingsway Court held their annual party, hosted by Jim and Myrna Piccione. No doubt, the highlight of the evening was the arrival of Fred Astaire (Shelby McCue) and Lady Gaga (Deborah McCue) – what a pairing! Also enjoying a great evening of fun, food and neighborly friendship: Rick and Irene Moore; Sharon Oliver; Eileen Booher; Dick and Lynda Watts; John Boardman; Wayne Reither. No one was tardy for this party: the 50th for Cheryl McGeough! Guests wore black or orange, or came in costume, and enjoyed “Jell-O shots” among other fine drinks and food! Friends gathered to celebrate this double occasion, included: Bill and Rhonda De Spain; David and Hildy Bubier; Chad and Devon Alexander; Tim and Andrea Lee; Daryl and Dora Hedtke; Bill and Janice Himpele; David and Kelly Krumrey; Ben and Sharon Gould; Randy and Carol Sutton; Randy and Katie Awe; Danny and Geralyn Sullivan; Bob and Barbara Eversole. Nothing scary, only beautiful―these young ladies have been recruited by the sororities of their choice: Rachel Martin is Phi Mu at Arkansas Technical U. University of Mississippi wins big with Kaitlin Brennan (Kappa Kappa Gamma); Megan Fahrmeier and Madi Harvey (Pi Beta Phi); Molly Wesley (Kappa Delta). The U of H Cougars score with Anel Ayala, Alpha Chi Omega. Taylor Owens is Phi Mu at UT San Antonio. Congratulations to all!
