Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. It was a day that Mike Byers couldn’t imagine for the longest time – his last meeting as President of the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce! After a career of honoring and serving others, Mike was surprised and honored by a proclamation from Houston Mayor Anise Parker: that Sept. 30 (this coming Thursday) is Mike Byers Day in the City of Houston! Mayor Parker and City Councilman Mike Sullivan surprised Byers at his last “official” luncheon. Chamber staff, board, and many community friends were there to enjoy the special day with Mike, including: Humble Mayor Donnie McMannes; Humble Police Chief Gary Warman; Karen Perkins; Mickey Kahn; Robert Sitton; Sharon Lewis; Phil Lively; Jim Lindenau; Cynthia Calvert Shiflet, and Debbie Marvin. Anne Schuelke was recently honored by The Federation of Houston Professional Women at the 2010 Women of Excellence Awards Gala, “Strengthening Our Connections.” Anne is a member of the Greenspoint chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professions (IAAP) and Executive Assistant to Administaff’s President Richard Rawson. Co-workers, family and friends who shared in the special evening included husband Roger; Richard and Dawn Rawson; Ron and Karen Martin; Jason and Shannon Cutbirth; Charles and Sandy Faubion; Mickey and Wilma Kahn; Bob and Joan Gabler; Roy, Kimberly and Jeffrey Camp; Krista Schuelke. Attorney Pat Hubbard and beautiful wife Mary hosted an open house at Pat’s new Kingwood office located in the Chase Bank Building. Dozens of friends and community supporters came out to enjoy the afternoon, including Tim Baker; Ed Dormer; Pat Guard with her mom Mary Reed; Ann Gonzalez; David and Linda Prator; Judy Thigpen; Chet and Leslie Mercier; Evelyn Walters; Jim Savage;Carmen Wisenbaker; Amy Cantwell from Congressman Ted Poe’soffice. The event was beautifully catered by Debbie Needham and her team from New Caney ISD Nutrition Department – perfectly presented, and very delicious! Walden Country Club Grape Stompers recently enjoyed an Evening with Italian Wines, presented by Keith Livingstonfrom Republic Beverage and Chef Kurt Plankenhorn. The Chef prepared an amazing five course Italian meal, and everyone is still talking about the unique dessert amuse`, white chocolate ravioli stuffed with a Frangelico chocolate truffle, served with a delightful Moscato d’Oro. Club manager Jamie Lavigne and his lovely wife Babette were joined by nearly 60 members and guests, including: Gene and Sue Perry; Paul and Sandra Walmiller; Walt and Carol Albright; Grady and Debbie Jacklin Coberly; Connie Jones; Sharon Binz; Phil and Karen Boughton. Cheryl (CJ) Johnson hosted a special gathering of the Kingwood Wine Club in her beautiful home, featuring Aram Deirmenjian and his Kiamie wines. Just a few days later, she and Aram hosted a five course wine dinner at Kingwood Country Club that was wonderful from cheese to scallops to veal roulade, duck breast, pork and coconut fudge dessert. Faces in the crowd: Dan and Andrea Shanahan; Kirby and Ginger Ellis friends visiting from Kansas; Steve and Ellie Mulliken; Ray and Carolyn Landry; Richard and Len Leofsky; Eileen Booher; Robert Gilroy; Buddy and Trish Hagner. Twila Carter and Diane Blanco have brought a new “Pulpwood Queen” book club to our community, one of 319 such clubs throughout the world. Kathy L. Patrick from Jefferson, Texas, is the author of “The Pulpwood Queens’ Tiara-Wearing, Book-Sharing Guide to Life” and the owner of the world’s only beauty salon/bookstore, Beauty and The Book. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Margaritas and a Mexican buffet were the backdrop for a delightful evening of tempting travel talk, hosted by Kingwood Travel’s owner and travel expert, Sharon Lewis. Lucky guests Twila Carter, and Gina Remmes won two night stays for two in Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, respectively, and CJ Johnson won the grand prize of 4 nights plus Continental Airlines airfare to Cozumel. Seen out and about: Ron and Natasha Holley and Paul and Angela Leviner were among those who joined Dr. Madaiah Revana in Napa Valley recently to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his fabulous winery, Revana Family Vineyards. Another reason to celebrate: Wine Spectator Magazine has designated the much sought after 97 rating for the Revana Cabernet Sauvignon! Howard Pitman just returned from Beverly, MA and the 65th reunion of the Beverly High School Class of ’45. John and Patty Carter enjoyed pasta night at Kingwood Country Club with granddaughter Allison and good friend Jane Davis. Correction: Katelynn Martin is a pledge at Alpha Delta Pi at UT-Austin.
