Out and About

Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. The stars of our community were out in force welcoming Starplex Cinemas-Kingwood Stadium 14. Three area Chambers of Commerce were well represented by their leadership and members, including Lake Houston Area Chamber’s Mike Byers and wife Barbara, Chairman Leon Brashier and staffer Jerri Bankston; Kingwood Chamber president Sparky Nolan and wife Mary; Community Chamber’s Andy Dill, board chair Jody Binion, and membership/marketing director Delilah Lewis doing beautifully after recent knee surgery. Kingwood’s Ted Mandel, who handles local public relations for Starplex, hosted a dazzling kickoff, complete with ribbon cuttings and back-to-back VIP events that included appearances of ‘Jack Sparrow’ and “Austin Powers.’ Elected officials included Montgomery County Pct 4 Commissioner Ed Rinehart and Houston City Councilmember Mike Sullivan and beautiful wife Kim. Enjoying the dollar drinks, candies and popcorn were Dr. Katherine Persson, Dave Kilby, Tom Broad, Jim and Dana Lindenau, Richard and Nancy Foisner, Tom Gallagher, Linda Dalton, Randy Taylor, Gwendolyn Condoleo Crawford, Sue Rinehart, Connie Bloodworth, Robert and Jayme Scarfo, Doug and Beth Stanley, Charlie Buscemi, Bernie and Gina Remmes, Cherrie Ledoux, Carole Biehunko, Dan Huberty, Cynthia Calvert, Anne McIlhany, Patsy Oliver, Tammy Nigro, Theresa Harper, Debbie Marvin and Carmen Wisenbaker. The Variety Club, one of the beneficiaries of the concessions profits, presented two specially-fitted bikes to two local special needs children. Starplex donates a bike a month for a special needs child. The fourth annual Zach Jones Gala at the Walden Country Club June 19 was a beautiful evening, and Larry and Connie Jones could not have been more thrilled with the turnout of community support The room was stunning! The tables and chairs were draped with elegant white and black linens, tables were topped with trios of lovely floating floral arrangements in tall clear vases lit by candlelight. There were many silent auction items to choose from, including a gorgeous huge rock wall painting generously donated by Toby Jones, Larry’s cousin. The dance floor was packed and rockin’ as the very talented band, These Guys Here, played everything from Jimmy Buffett to George Strait. In the crowd were Kirk and Cathy Munden, Bob and Tammie Headlee, Toby and Mia May, Gary and Amanda Leonard, Bob Weinand, Tim Jones, Rick and Sharon Jones (visiting from West Virginia), Michelle Otteman, Robert Scarfo, Gwendolyn Condoleo-Crawford and Mariah Condoleo, Brenda and Lionel Sigurdson, Leticia Whipple and so many more. The live auction was a great success, with a BONUS drawing for all those that were live auction item supporters. The nine names were placed in a bowl; then one lucky winner was drawn, and that person won “LETS GO OUT TO THE BALL GAME”: 8 tickets to an Astros game, limo ride to Minute Maid Park package! Dave Kotowych and his lovely wife, Janet, were the lucky winners! You couldn’t miss the long white limo that pulled up to Raffa’s Waterfront Grill. John and Jeanne Simonetti were the winning bidders at the Humble ISD Foundation Gala on a fabulous live auction item that included the limo, roses for each lady, and a wine dinner of absolute perfection, thanks to the genius of Chef David Welch, wine expert extraordinaire Robert Gilroy, and entertaining host David Dickson. Chef David was toasted throughout the night for the five course meal, from passion fruit salad to grilled bacon wrapped salmon to imperial bread pudding crème Anglais. Very happy to be FoS (Friends of Simonettis): Chris and Suzy Bloch; Richard and Len Leofsky; Steve and Angela Wilson; Bob Robertson and fiancée Linda Yeager. news of the night: Robert Gilroy is not moving to Atlanta after all, and will stay in Kingwood, joining another of our favorites, Moet Hennessey. Don’t miss Keller Williams Northeast free concert at King’s Harbor, from 6 – 9 p.m. on July 1, for a great night of music, and family fun, including Happy Heart the Clown and every kid’s favorite, the Harbor Plaza fountain! “These Guys Here” a band comprised of area residents Rick Lindholtz, Dick Chapman, Raymond Foster and Joe Condeleo, will perform classic rock, country and folk.
