Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. You couldn’t help but notice the big white tent at Parkway Family Mazda/Kia, but you had to be to enjoy a fabulous night of music, fine food and wine and to meet our newest community neighbors. The Durdin family, mom Jean, daughters Granger and Sharilyn, and son Forbes hosted a grand opening gala which benefited FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center, a first-class event all the way! It was a carnivore’s delight with stations of rack of lamb sponsored by the Parkway Family Insurance Agency, and sirloin sponsored by EFG Services, along with Zachary’s Cajun Cafe’s red beans and rice with sausage, a chocolate fountain courtesy of Cherrie Ledoux and Grand Affair Catering, and mini cheesecakes provided by Raffa’s Waterfront Grill. Jean Durdin is a wine connoisseur, and her selections of wine really “kicked it up a notch”! The silent and live auctions were very successful, with the amazing trip package for two to the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca bringing in $6,200. Faces in the crowd: Judy Cox; Dawn Evans; Juanita Zavala; Dave Davis; Kathy Neal; Willie and Melissa Ferguson; Tamara Paul; Phil Lively and Sharon Lewis; Hector and Robin Martinez; Aggie Green; Evelyn Walters; Kim Fitzgerald; Larry and Cynthia Calvert Shiflet; Anne McIlhany, a table filled with Tribune folks. Charlie and Tommie Buscemi purchased the winning gift bag which was a gorgeous set of pearl jewelry (for Tommie)! If you haven’t visited Warren’s Southern Gardens on Northpark, you are missing out! They have gorgeous plants, knowledgeable, helpful staff, a delightful gift shop, free classes on a variety of subjects, and have scheduled an upcoming “Kids Day of Nature Play.” On a recent Saturday owners Dean and Bernice Warren hosted an “Evening of Wine and Art.” It was lovely to walk through the beautiful gardens, drinking just the perfect wines provided by Cheryl “CJ” Johnson, enjoying light appetizers and unique art work that ranged from gift cards and jewelry to water colors and prints. Faces in the crowd: Nellene Harvey; Bill and Rosemary Beard; Dale and Pam McNaughton; Michael and Mary Barnes; Eileen Booher; Carlton and Carol Jensen; Londa Dunn; the Danny McClungs; the David Mundays. Visit their website, www.WarrensSouthernGardens.com The buzz is all about Café Dubois and new general manager Tyler Hewitt. Tyler has many years of experience in the food and wine industries and is a Certified Sommelier of the Court of Master Sommeliers – very impressive! He has some exciting plans for food and wine classes, tastings, and menu items. A native of British Columbia, Tyler arrived here via New York, Hollywood and Las Vegas. Seen out and about: “Crawfish and Blues,” the great music of Sharon Montgomery, Jerry Atwood, and a whole lot more at Bistro Calais in Houston: Howard Pitman and Anne Viault; Larry and Karen Martin; Christopher and Jill Curran, and Todd Finney with fiancée Cherryl Young. Sharon and Jerry are crowd favorites at Amedeo’s Jazz Nights. At Bill’s Café: Paul and Syble Margaritis who headed there immediately after returning home from Australia.
