Out and About...

Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! Moonlight Garden Ball, the annual Village Learning and Achievement Center (VLAC) gala, was another stunning success from gala chair Marie Halvatzis and her team. From the enchanting décor to the fabulous salmon and steak dinner, it was a winner. The crowd gave this year’s Community Honoree Kathie Gentry a well-deserved standing ovation for her years of service to VLAC and our community. The Villager Honoree was Jason Jones, recognized for his work in Village Gardens, an organic garden center operated by VLAC. As always, guests and Villagers alike could hardly wait to take to the dance floor, and danced away the night! Faces in the packed Crowne Plaza Hotel ball room included: John Gentry; Dr. Jim and Carolyn Davis; Constable Ron Hickman and fiancee, Judge Connie Mayfield of Corsicana; Dr. Robert and Mamie Covington; Nancy Reed; Joe and Corinn Price; Joe and Cathy Fitzpatrick Cleary; Larry Shiflet and Cynthia Calvert; Melinda Stephenson; Nick and Tricia Racine; Dan and Janet Huberty; Robert and Jayme Scarfo; Doug and Beth Stanley; David and Hildy Bubier; Kenny and Nancy Shortsleeve; Randy and Carol Sutton; Robert and Lisa Dempsey; Russell and Ellen Nipe; Harold and Barbara Hutchinson; Dave and Gwendolyn Condeleo Crawford; David and Clare Zeagler; Norm and Jan Phillips, and hundreds more. Robert Gilroy, Tony Raffa and Chef David Welch teamed up to host a magnificent wine dinner at Raffa’s, featuring Murphy Goode Wines paired with six courses of gourmet creations. From salmon canapés to house made pork sausage, duck, and much more, the guests were delighted! Faces in the crowd: Ralph and Joan Imperato; Dave and Bonnie Kluborg; Jerry and Diana Hertzenberg; Lee and Martha Brasted; Robert and Nancy Dillard; Mat and Debbie Naftis; Rick Starzyk and Denise Guest; Cheryl (CJ) Johnson, and Richard Leofsky. Aggie Green hosted girls’ night out at Amedeo’s, a result of her successful bid on a wine tasting at the Lone Star College Foundation gala auction. Republic’s Robert Hernandez entertained the group with tastings of four different wines, while Tony Raffa himself cooked dinner for the group – no mere tastings that night! Tony prepared some wonderful dishes beginning with crab fingers in a beurre blanc sauce, finishing with chocolate mousse, and two others in between. Each guest received a rose, a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine, and a lovely perfume bottle. Aggie will become a “snow bird,” traveling between Kingwood and Cincinnati, Ohio, and will continue to operate her successful business via telecommunications and commuting. Enjoying the evening were good friends Rogna Rivet, Rosalee Davis, Susan Cherry, Sandra Rogers, Linda Rhodes, Stacia Cowan, Nancy Shortsleeve, Tamara Paul, and Diane Blanco. Congratulations to Emily Marshall of Northwest Derma Color who was recognized as the 2009 Woman of the Year by the Women of Vision Express Network (WOVEN) Chapter of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA)! Jetsetters in our midst: Howard Pitman just returned from 3 fabulous weeks in Paris with friends Paul and Syble Margaritis. Dr. Jim and Diane Loughran “raced” to Miami where they competed in an international triathlon. Ron and Tina Denoville and Alan Osborne and Kathy LeCompte sailed away on a romantic island cruise. Tim and Andrea Lee, Don and Cheryl McGeough, Chad and Devon Alexander, Randy and Carol Sutton, Curtis and Kim Maxey, and Greg and Marie Halvatzis enjoyed a Playa del Carmen getaway, thanks to placing the winning bid on a Mothers Against Cancer auction item. The six couples had a wonderful time at Puerto Aventuras at a gorgeous 6 bedroom villa, as well as spending their days sightseeing, snorkeling, and shopping. If you should go there, everyone recommends Wicky’s for dining and La Zebra Bar and boutique hotel in Tulum. Keller Williams Realty Northeast’s November 20th free concert at King’s Harbor will feature a great favorite, The Fifth Avenue Band, which is led by Kingwood’s own Bill Phillips. This band plays music from the 40’s to Sinatra to Motown, and more―what fun to dance under stars! The Lake Houston YMCA and Nutcracker Ballet performers from the Kingwood Dance Theatre will be the featured guests. The entertainment begins at 7 pm. So bring the kids, lawn chairs, blankets, coolers, and all your friends to enjoy a family, fun filled evening! For more information, visit www.clickKWne.com.
