Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community. Mary Brenner opened her beautiful home for a showing of her latest Jewelry 4 Hope original designs. Mary crafts her jewelry from Swarovski crystals, Murano glass, sterling silver, and other lovely materials, and donates a portion of her sales proceeds to breast cancer research. She is the “go-to” lady if you want a special creation with pink crystals! (Visit www.jewelry4hope.com for more information.) It was quite an occasion as hubby Jim showed off his wine grotto, and guests oohed and aahed over the home, as well as the jewelry. “By Design’s Interiors” Peggy Fuller, Cindy Aplanalp, and Larissa Carmanidis were on hand to talk about their interior design work in the home. Larissa also planned the evening and wrote articles that appeared in Houston Design Resources and Texas Home and Living magazines. So, of course, Houston Design Resources publisher Michelle Maresh and ad director Siri Roark with were there too! Kingwood shopping buddies in the crowd included Lisa Mancuso, Mary Rushing, Terri Guarini, Leanetta Eilers, Sheri Katz, Jennifer Manning, Charlie and Cheryl Jones, Philip and Kay Levin, and Eileen Booher. Meanwhile, just around the corner, Jackson Fisher Hughes celebrated his first birthday with cake and pizza at the home of grandpa and grandma, Jack and Lynn Fields. He had his own little cake, decorated in his favorite cars theme, to “play” in, while the others enjoyed another “cars” decorated cake. Also celebrating with Jackson were his parents, Josh and Amy Hughes, grandparents Feron and Sheron Evans, great-grandmother Darlene Taliaferro and “honorary uncle and aunt” David and Rhonda Simpson with their son Collins. Courtney Green launched her career as a representative for “Stella and Dot,” an irresistible new jewelry line, at her mom Jill Curran’s home. It was a fun night of shopping and making out “wish lists” for several savvy shoppers, including Karen Boughton; Angela Leviner; Gail Fry; Chris and Payton Parker; Eileen Booher; and Linda Woehst with daughter Meredith Smith and new granddaughter Abigail Smith. It was Abigail’s first jewelry show, so Payton, the “bling diva of the under-two set” showed her all the tricks of smart shopping! If you couldn’t be there, see the Fall Collection at www.stelladot.com/courtneygreen. It was a packed house (and patio too!) at Raffa’s for Jazz Night and the delightful music of “Mood Indigo.” Faces in the crowd included: Paul and Paula Yale; Gail Lynch and Pam Kelley; Jason Cutbirth and Dan Thornton; Carla Gripp and daughter Crystal. Horned Frogs and Longhorns; Mean Green and Red Raiders; Aggies too – only in Texas! Beautiful young ladies from our community who have recently pledged sororities at these prestigious universities include Marion Blalock, Morgan Bocca and Lauren Kowal, pledging Zeta Tau Alpha at A&M; Angela Barr pledging Delta Zeta at A&M; Susan Frutiger pledging Sigma Kappa at TCU; Meredith Silva pledging Alpha Delta Pi at Texas Tech; at University of North Texas: Chelsey Joseph pledging Chi Omega, and Ashley Boucher pledging Pi Beta Phi; three lovely Longhorns: Dannye Osburn pledging Alpha Delta Pi; Christen McVaney pledging Alpha Phi, and Caitlin McPherson pledging Zeta Tau Alpha. More next week…. A drizzly day didn’t dampen the spirits of those “Wild about Wayne!” Colorful tents with protective flaps dotted Town Center as people gathered to enjoy music and barbecue and to meet Houston city council candidate Wayne Garrison. Faces in the crowd included: Cheryl (CJ) Johnson; Cherrie, Daniel and Carlos Ledoux; Danny and Kelly Sullivan; Dave Crawford; Dwayne Ulrich; Fred Kreis; Bernie and Gina Remmes; Hannah and Emily Cousins; Dennis and Karen Pfeiffer; Larry Lane; Mary Brenner; Mike Netek; Paula Fleming; Richard Leofsky; Russ and Sandy Mullenix; Susan Garrett; Tim and Jo Daspit; Tony Geldens; Kathy Danz who provided her face painting expertise; and DJ Mark Linabury who always lends the right music to the occasion. Calling all divas for this year’s annual Humble Area of Chamber of Commerce ladies’ night out! “Derby Divas” will be held at the Humble Civic Center on Thursday, October 8, from 6 - 9 pm. Vendor opportunities are still available. As part of his retirement fun, Jim will take a Discovery Flight at the Brenham Airport for a tour of the city, and of course, we see lots of golf in his future! Seen out and about: Dub Niederhofer celebrating his birthday with wife Glenda; Eunice Dennis and Barbara Smith at Carrabba’s; Bill and Linda Storey “summering” in Chautauqua, NY, but returning home to celebrate grandson William Dunn’s 2nd birthday.
