Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! The annual Humble Intercontinental Rotary Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success!  Many folks came for “take-out,” or waited in line to enjoy a good meal, great music, live and silent auctions.  Volunteers from Humble, Atascocita and Porter Fire Departments dished up the first batches of spaghetti and sauce.  A panel of restaurateur judges voted the Porter group No. 1, but everyone was a winner, as money was raised for the many charities that Rotary supports, including The Village Learning & Achievement Center, FamilyTime and Humble Area Assistance Ministries.  There was such a huge turnout that the serving line ran out of spaghetti and sauce; so the good folks at nearby Italiano’s Restaurant in Humble stepped up to (the empty) plate, providing additional spaghetti and sauce, and would not accept a dime of payment.  That’s community partnership at work!  Neither rain, nor floods, nor dark of night kept some devoted gourmands from enjoying a fabulous wine dinner at The Veranda Restaurant.  The menu was incredible, created for the evening by Chef James Guard and accompanied by fine wines from Robert Gilroy and Majestic Wines. From the opening soup (Asparagus cappuccino) with almond truffle biscotti to the amazing dessert, plantain-encrusted Thai chili bread pudding with black pepper ice cream, there were rave reviews from: Mary Reed; Diane Blanco; Twyla Carter Ilgen; Christopher and Jill Curran; Larry and Margie Nicolai.  The wine dinner provided a photo op for The Veranda’s donation of a wine dinner/cooking class to the fabulous auction at the Lone Star College Foundation Star Gala May 30 at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott.  This exceptional and glamorous gala raises scholarship funds for all Lone Star campuses. Tables for 10 range from $2,000 to $25,000; individual seats are $150 – all for a great cause.
