Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! Lake Houston YMCA Marketing and Special Event Director Carol Sutton and her team hit a home run with last Thursday’s “Dancing for Partners,” an evening of dancing with community stars! The Partners Scholarship Campaign makes it possible for needy children to participate in excellent YMCA youth sports programs, teen leadership camps and after-school care programs. Mike Byers and Michael Sullivan entertained as the event emcees.  There were 10 dance teams, each performing a selected dance: Paul and Vicki Sarvadi; Rick Alspaugh and Tiffany Rico; Doug Stanley and Kristen Webb; Jonathan Brinsden and Susan Chile; Dan Huberty and Dorota Sherlock; Robert Sherlock and Christie Harrison; Steven Millner and Stacy Willms; Maurice Bonilla and Rebecca Hart; Robert Scarfo and Heather Nicholas; Guy Sconzo and Cyndi Vaughn. The crowd in the packed Nathaniel Center gave standing ovations to several of the teams and then cast their votes for the winners: Best Costume, to Jonathan and Susan; Outstanding Showmanship to Dan and Dorota; Daredevil Award (you had to be there!) to Steven and Stacy; Crowd Pleaser to Guy and Cyndi. Grand Prize Winners were Robert and Christie, who wowed the crowd dancing the cha-cha. But everyone was a winner, because at least $25,000 was raised for the children! The Zach Jones Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fund had a kick-off reception recently at Raffa’s. As always, Chef David Welch and Tony Raffa provided delicious hors d’oeuvres and great wine for the crowd, including: Larry and Connie Jones; Brooks and Carmen Christensen; Bobbi Curtis; Lou and Connie Paxton; John and Jan Lopez; Kevin and Lou Hyatt, and others. You’ll want to save the dates for the second annual “Z” Gala, Saturday, June 6, and the third annual Zach Jones Memorial Golf Tournament, Monday, June 8, both of which will be held at Walden Golf and Country Club. For more information and registration for either event, visit www.zachjonesmemorial.org. Party-giver extraordinaire Cheryl (CJ) Johnson had the tables turned when friends surprised her with a birthday party at the Iron Horse Saloon which was decked out in patriotic red, white and blue. Undaunted by the fierce thunderstorms of the afternoon, many of CJ’s friends braved the mud and humidity to enjoy a crawfish boil and dancing till midnight. DJ Mark Linabury provided the music; Mike Netek slaved over the crawfish, and Cherrie Ledoux of A Grand Affair catered the birthday cupcakes and other delicious treats. Good friends wishing CJ the happiest of birthdays: Danny and Geralyn Sullivan; Pete Sullivan; Christopher and Jill Curran; Dwayne Ulrich; Angela Leviner; Wayne and Millie Garrison; Bobby Montgomery; Chris Stanzel; Gary Carriere; Cherryl Young; David and Judy Luquette; Richard and Len Leofsky, and many more. Another recent surprise birthday party/wine tasting was hosted by Chris Parker for Cindy Brenza. Guests were asked to bring wines that reminded them of Cindy, and some of those were “Little Black Dress,” “Red Diamond” and “Dream Boat”. Faces in the crow: Jason Parker; Karyn Brenza; Eileen Booher; Robert and Nancy Dillard; Brenda Miller; Trish Perkin; Bev Wright; Nancy Hinterlang. Friends of Kathy Paterson celebrated her birthday at Zammitti’s: Charlotte Anthony, Halene Crossman, Carolyn Dickerson, Pat Nierode, and Beth Whittier.
