Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! The stars were out – really! It was a star-studded event as Congressman Ted Poe was center stage in the beautiful outdoors of Jess and Danell Fields’ home. Other host couples: Chet and Anita Frazier; David and Debbie Preisler; Mike and Barbara Byers; Victor and Diane Blanco. Among the guests gathered around for Congressman Poe’s latest updates on Washington happenings: Phil Lively and Sharon Lewis; Don and Bobbie Barksdale; Byron Calfee; Beth Panzarella; Kim Sullivan; Ray and Karen Perkins Solcher; Mike and Ronna Hardage; Dolton and Barbara Knox; Carolyn McCarty; Jerri Bankston; Pat and Mary Hubbard; and David Pierce who “fired up” the piano for a while. Valerie Copley was there to oversee the delicious dinner catered by Trigg’s, which included prime roast beef, boiled shrimp and scrumptious desserts. Bravo to Kingwood Musical Arts Society which recently celebrated their 20th anniversary with a magnificent performance of their original program, Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and John Rutter’s “Requiem.” Special tribute was paid to the first Chorale director, Dudley Cavenaugh, who passed away in 1996. Dudley’s family was also honored, and his gorgeous, extremely talented daughter Kathryn Cavenaugh was a soloist in “Requiem.” The concert was held at First Presbyterian Church Kingwood, and those in the audience included senior pastor Dr. Jim Davis and wife Carolyn; Dr. Al and Cheryl Moore; Evan and Candy Varty; Diane Livingston; Mike and Lynn Boyd; Celine Miers; Skip and Vivian Curry; and many others. The following weekend, the Kingwood Big Band performed at Lone Star College-Kingwood to a packed house. The weekend of Oct. 25 was a beautiful one, with lots of fun area happenings, including the Car Show at Kingwood Towne Center. Pete Locke (better known as Judy Luquette’s dad) won the “Best Over All” for his ’64 Corvette! The new Chachi’s was a favorite hangout before, during and after the show. Some faces in the crowd: Judy Luquette; Dan Huberty and family; Danny and Geralyn Sullivan; Tony and Cheryl Austin; Ty Eckley; Gwendolyn Condeleo-Crawford; Bobby Montgomery; Kim Sullivan; Kurt Townsend; Mark and Jenny Micheletti. Mark Linabury and Sparky Nolan emceed the event and kept it lively! The band was great – Andy Rodriguez and the Harmony Grove. Congratulations to Holy Comforter Lutheran Church in Kingwood which celebrated their 40th anniversary last Sunday with everything from hand bells to proclamations. Those proclamations came in person from: Mayor Bill White with a City of Houston Proclamation; Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and wife Gwen presenting a Harris County proclamation. Kim Brode presented a congressional recognition on behalf of Congressman Ted Poe. What a great day for Holy Comforter Church! Kingwood Women’s Club annual Holiday Market was awesome – bigger and better than ever! Several vendors told me these were the best two days they ever had at an event. There were many new exhibitors, tasty food, lots of bling and beauty and a great venue at Humble Civic Center. Proceeds will benefit many of our local charities¯thank you, Kingwood Women’s Club! Cheryl Johnson (CJ) and Cherie Ledoux surprised good friend Denise Krieger with a birthday party luncheon on the patio at Chimichurri’s. Hubby Paul, son Cameron, nephew Ben; Devon Alexander; Christie Herring; Holly Oberst; Dwayne Ulrich; Gary Carriere; Ronnie and Brenda Chance; Robin Herrera; Lamar Berry; C. J.’s mom Judy; and Cherie’s mom, Zennie, were among those wishing “happy birthday.” Denise’s favorite gift: the beautiful scarf and hat knitted by Judy, of course! Lucky day for Charlie and Kyle Campbell – having lunch for two on the patio, they got to share in the celebration! Speaking of surprise birthday parties, once again Ron Denoville tried to surprise wife Tina with a birthday party, but Tina is just too aware of what he’s up to. Last year, Tina cleaned house and prepared food; this year, she helped with the guest list. The family and good friends who showed up at Cedar Landing to help celebrate included: Dr. Jim and Diane Loughran; Patrick and David Loughran; Madison Peete; Al and Jackie Russell; Sue Schauman; Allan Osborn; Stuart and Danielle Graham; John and Faye Dillon; Bruce and Dawn Koceja, who stopped in to bring a delicious chocolate birthday cake before heading to Toyota Center for the Rockets’ opening night.
