Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! Including Kids had a wonderful evening recently at Sam Houston Race Park. “Race for the Kids” was sponsored by Advanced Financial Services, represented by Aggie Green for David Ramsey, E. L. P., who, unfortunately, could not attend. Other faces in the crowd: Gary and Lisa Sostack; Leonard and Kim Brusatori; Steve and Lisa Prusak; Lisa and Linda Dillon; Stacia Cowan; Gabriele Saussock; Amy McIntee. Executive director Jennifer Dantzler and director of development Theresa Johnston made sure everything was perfect, from the fajita buffet to the unique and fun giving opportunities to support the organization. Since Including Kids is moving into a bigger space near their current Atascocita location, there is a building campaign that includes naming opportunities for everything from the sensory room to the kitchen; from computers to desks, and just about everything in between; from $200 to $5,000. Including Kids is a nonprofit organization that provides outstanding programs for children with Autism. Members of the North Harris County Criminal Justice Association were treated to a fascinating presentation by Andy Kahan, director of the (City of Houston) Mayor’s Crime Victims Office. We were all proud when Kahan singled out Humble Police Department’s Chris Green as being an outstanding victims’ advocate! The room was packed for the early morning breakfast meeting, attended by such law enforcement, community and civic leaders as: State Rep. Joe Crabb; Houston City Councilman Michael Sullivan; HISD School Board members Keith Lapeze and Brent Engelage; Harris County tax assessor/ collector candidate Diane Trautman; Mike Sutton; Ray Taylor; Betty Hogan; Dwayne Ulrich; Ed Englehart; Rodney Smith; Tom Bates; Lex Baquer; Becky Medley; Dr. Katherine Persson; Dr. Rebecca Riley; Judy Cox and Juanita Zavala. It’s not often that Tony and Leslie Raffa get to sit down and enjoy the company of their guests at a wine tasting, but they were able to do just that recently, joining Paul and Kelley Saunders, Mike and Fran Leslie, Ralph and Joan Imperato and Kenny Eaves in the wine room at Raffa’s. Chef David, just back from a relaxing vacation, created such yummy dishes as brie and smoked salmon puff pastries and mini fish tacos made with swordfish! “Seeing Stars” – or they will be soon! Humble ISD and Education Foundation members recently had a walkthrough of the new Administaff Observatory, located next to Jack Fields Elementary School. The Observatory was named for Administaff because of the magnificent way that the company stepped up to support this amazing, one-of-a-kind project for our school district, and in fact, our community. Among those at this exciting event: Carl Joiner, Corinn Price, Aaron Clevenson and Karen Perkins. The grand opening is just around the corner! Sharon Montgomery and Charlene Wright really wowed the crowd at Amedeo’s most recent Jazz Night. Each time these two ladies appear, they get more and more “into” the crowd, and really provide a great evening of entertainment. Faces in the crowd included: Chad and Devon Alexander; Eunice Dennis with her sister Barbara Smith, (Rod was on a fishing trip with their son); Robert and Nancy Dillard; Ted and Diana Price; Carol McCord; Mark Linabury; Ron and Halene Crossman; Paul and Denise Krieger; Eileen Booher; Charlie Cunningham and Sylvia Slaughter. Kingwood Area Republican Women (KARW) invite all interested persons to attend their Sept. 17th meeting when club president Alice Rekeweg recounts her experiences as a delegate to this year’s Republican National Convention held in Minneapolis. Also on the agenda, Bill King will speak on “Greater Houston Traffic Congestion” – something we are all familiar with! Not only is Mr. King an excellent speaker, he is also running for Mayor of Houston next year. Planning ahead for the Oct. 15 meeting, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, Tina Benkiser, will be the speaker. This group meets the third Wednesday of each month at Kingwood Country Club, in the Magnolia Room, beginning at 11 a.m., with an optional lunch buffet beginning at 11:30; program at noon. Danell Fields and Karen Boughton, co-chairs of AABY’s (Animals Always Believe in You) upcoming “Cocktails, Canines and Canapés” gala, hosted a kick-off breakfast at Homewood Suites for the Nov. 1 event to be held at the Nathaniel Center. This is such a fun event, and guaranteed to be a success through the creative ideas and hard work of this highly talented, high energy committee, which includes: Jim and Kay Pass; Tracy Monk; Gerard Charles; Devon Alexander; Brenda Landry; Annette Wood; Michelle Parnell; Diane Blanco; Cherrie Ledoux; Cheryl Johnson, and several others. Wedding congratulations to these couples: Richard and Carol Billeter on their 49th; Rod and Eunice Dennis on their 46th; Bob and Linda Singletary on their 43rd! Happy 80th birthday to one of my favorite beautiful ladies, Lois Meredith! Judy Cox hosted a bridal shower for Judy Whitehead, who will be Mrs. Steve Fowler by the time you read this. Among those toasting and celebrating: Judy W’s daughter Brianna (who will marry later this year); daughter-in-law Rachel Smith; Janet Huberty; Shirley Harkins; Tamera Fallon; Dawn Evans; Juanita Zavala. What’s on my calendar: “One Life at a Time,” the 5th annual fundraiser and luncheon for The Mission; Monday, Sept. 29; supporting exceptional programs for local families in need. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) in New Caney; lunch catered by Amedeo’s. Reservations: 281-354-1200. I’ll see you out and about!
