Welcome back to Out and About … where you can find out what’s happening in our community! The Humble Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 85th birthday with a first class party at the RE/MAX Suburban offices in Atascocita. Greeting guests were RE/MAX owners Henry and Vicky Pruitt and Bill and Moreen Dieden. Swags’ owner Marion O’Brien opened the doors to her beautifully decorated office, and generously created and donated some wonderful gift baskets filled with goodies. Celebrating this great event: Mike and Barbara Byers; Pierce and Anne Treadwell; Ed Dormer; Janet Huberty; Lisa Niccum; Christopher and Jill Bagley Curran; Allen and Jane Bonny; Frances Chubb; Tim Lange; Debbie Marvin; Angie Gentry; and many, many more. Speaking of the Chamber, Sept. 16 will be the monthly Chamber luncheon which is also the annual Teachers of the Year luncheon, honoring teachers from Humble and Spring ISDs and Northeast Christian Academy, and Teachers of Excellence from Lonestar Kingwood College. This is one of the biggest events of the year, and will be held at Humble Civic Center. Reservations are due by Friday, Sept. 12; so call Carolyn at the Chamber, 281-319-8907 today. The Humble ISD Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament, presented by lead sponsor Administaff, will be held at Kingwood Country Club on the Forest and Marsh courses Thursday, Sept. 18. Thanks to Northside Lexus, there will be a brand new Lexus for a hole in one on each course! Other “perks” as a player or sponsor: player packages from Nike; catered lunch; unlimited soft drinks and water; margarita machines; raffle and auction; dinner provided by Amedeo’s, and much, much more! All proceeds from the event fund innovative classroom projects, teacher and staff development programs and grants to enhance curriculum and technology within the district.  The Lake Houston Women’s Council of Realtors recently filled the ballroom at Atascocita Country Club. There might be a real estate slow down in other areas, but our community is boom, boom, boom! Making it a day to remember were newly elected WCR officers Tom Gallagher; Carol Alford; Bobbie Persky; and Karen Fitzgerald. Among those enjoying the lasagna and fettuccine lunch: Ruben Vela, Karen Boughton; Michelle Williamson; Exit Realty owners Al and Keith Hebert; and Cathy Heinrich. A group of Kingwood tennis pals and daughter Jordan Fields recently surprised gorgeous grandma-to-be Lynn Fields with a “grandmother’s shower” for Lynn’s first grandchild, Jackson Hughes, son of Josh and Amy Hughes. Hostesses with the mostess were Colette Dickard, Suzanne Monk and Jill White. Friends who helped stock Lynn’s “grandma closet” included: Linda Woehst; Kathy Dehart; Cathy Marshall; Fran Fennie; Joanne Carpenter; Mary Brenner; Susan Tatum with daughter Taylor and grandson Micah. To make things even more perfect, Meredith Woehst Smith tucked a handmade frame from her fabulous “Bella Baby” line into a basket filled with goodies! “Babies, Bubbles and Balloons” –the theme of yet another surprise baby shower, for Karie Lynn Rogers, hosted by her sisters Julie Valadez and Lorie Boughton, assisted by two more gorgeous grandmas-to-be, Karen Boughton and Terry Rogers. Since Karen did the catering, you know the food was spectacular, including “bun in the oven quiche” and “mini muffins with baby powdered sugar!” Sharing in the fun: great-grandmas-to-be Jean Kariotis and Irene Hilton; Ashley Terwigaliger; Wilma Kahn; Carolyn Mashburn; Sue Schmidt; Susie and Melody Valadez; Mary Helen Rodriguez; Sylvia Flores; Sarah Rossi; Jesse and Alex Heuer and many others. A little bit of Hollywood hit Houston when several of the cast from TNT’s hit show “The Closer” came to town to support the 2008 Sunshine Kids Gala at Hilton Americas Hotel. And since Craig Biggio and wife Patty were the gala chairs, there was a lot of glitz, glamour, and fun! G.W. Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Tony Denison, Gina Revera, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett and others, along with Craig, graciously posed for pictures at a private reception, and then mixed and mingled, being friendly and personable with the crowd all evening. G. W. even took the stage to help raise more money for the live auction. There were many wonderful and unique silent auction items, but the live auction was something to remember! The “Tuscany Getaway” for 10 guests to a villa in Chianti went for $50,000¯and they sold two of them! Local faces in the crowd: Andrew and Kimberly Boyd; Ralph and Joan Imperato; Tom and Michele Isler; Sue Pilko; Judith Anderson; Christie Fernandez; Carolyn Baldwin; Kay Galloway; Melanie Wick; and former Kingwood residents Russell and Glenda Gordy.  Sunshine Kids Foundation is a 501/(c)/(3), organization, which means you can make a tax deductible gift to this wonderful organization that is dedicated to children with cancer. The national office is in Houston, visit This email address is being protected from spambots.
