Well, I’m the guest Out and About Columnist this week. It’s funny, I send information to the writers of this article all the time, but I’ve never had to do the entire thing. I was wondering what I would write about, but then I realized that I am REALLY busy and have had a full week of adventures with my kids: Brianna, 8, Ryan, 6, and Dylan, 4. So, here we go: a mom’s view of summertime. Humble ISD hosted a Computer Camp for kids entering 3 – 5th grades. My daughter happens to be entering 3rd grade and when the flier first came home in April to sign up, I jumped at the chance. She created a sea dragon on a computer program and researched their habitat, diet, adaptations and endangerment status. Check it out; the camp – and Brianna – are featured on the ISD Web site: www.humble.k12.tx.us Special thanks to the great IT teachers Shanna James, Paige Parker, Angela Conrad, Yvonne Harris and Kim Bates and volunteers Wendy Stanziano and Sharon Limegrover. The circus is in town and The Tribune family and friends were well represented . We traveled all the way to Reliant Stadium to see the Bello-Bration (as they say). Seen the same night, far away, was also The Tribune’s Patsy Oliver with her daughter, Heather Schwalbach, son Logan Schwalbach and nephew, Jarod Glover, plus Tasha Luce with Hayley, Hannah and Hudson Luce. Tim and Dawn Lange and their sons Zachary and Corey, managing editor Luisa Hart and sons Alex and Michael, columnist Karen Boughton and granddaughters Alex and Jesse Heuer, friend Sarah Rossi and Karen’s mom Jean Kariotis. All enjoyed being under the ‘Big Top.’ It really is the Greatest Show on Earth! Last Tuesday, Ronald McDonald came to the Atascocita Library for two free shows. Both were packed with kids to see the magic show. Last year, he gave out coloring books… this year he did not and my kids actually remembered that! Seen there: Jennifer Polito with kids Jessica and Joshua and friend Ana Sophia Aragon. Wednesday we went to Juergen’s Open Gym time. It’s available to anyone age 5 and up, you do not need to be a student and it only costs $5 for the kiddos from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Seen having a blast: Alex and Emma VanPelt, Nicholas and Kate Covey, Kemper McEacharn, Annie and Emma Rogers. Wednesday night, I was supposed to fill in for the Walden Ladies Golf League. Susan Brown, Realtor extraordinaire, was out of town and asked me to play golf for her in a tournament. It was rained out… they play every Wednesday night all summer long. In the point lead is the team of Melissa Heaton and Carrie Faulkner. I have the hardest time getting my hair done in the summer. Luckily my hairdresser is the BEST ever and makes house calls. Kelly Bryant came to my house and did hair for me and my children, plus: Abby and Isabell Caldwell and Sherry and Porter Derden. It’s a regular play house with kids and hair everywhere (my cleaning lady comes on Friday… whew). Thursday my kids were invited to a birthday party for Camden Krieder (turning 4) hosted by The Tribune’s Rachael Waite. Seen at the pony party dripping in pink balloons and purple streamers: Danyna, Vance, Carson and Christian Krieder, Shelly, Nathan and Ian Ratliff and Logan, Selina and Dylan Waite. Thursday night it was grownups only as Planet Ford was Blue and White to roll out its new vehicle - the FLEX. It’s a great new car with a refrigerator between the back seats just big enough to keep six juice boxes cold. Kristi Williams was the hostess with the mostess that night. What a great job… fountains of champagne and chocolate sat side by side… Attending the fabulous event: Karen Perkins, Tom Broad, Mike Byers, Humble City Council member Bill Conner and his wife Shirley and General Manager Tom Broadway. Friday I found out that Little Caesars is opening a store right next to my favorite chiropractor, Dr. Kevin O’Brien, in the strip center in front of the Atascocita Wal-Mart… yum!! To top off such a busy week, it was time for a relaxing dinner. I drove to the Aquarium Restaurant downtown and saw Becca Dubow and Renner Linquist. Also seen at Como se Dice after an afternoon of house hunting in Kingwood were Tim and Karie Rogers with their mom Terry Rogers and sister and brother-in-law Stacy and Mark Hughes. Karie grew up in Kingwood and is moving back with her husband Tim, who is with Farmers Insurance. What’s on my schedule: My friend Tiffany Bauer, who lives in my neighborhood (Walden), is hosting a seminar for all business owners and executives who are sick of chaotic work days. Tiffany, whose business is Power Promotions, and Jeff Timpanaro, of Oberata Consulting, will be presenting a Lunch and Learn seminar to give strategies for increasing productivity in the workplace on Thursday, July 31, at Homewood Suites in Kingwood from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join the crowd for the ABBY ‘Putting on the Pupparazzi’ Luncheon at Walden Country Club this Friday, Aug. 1. The event is celebrating its fourth year to raise funds for the animals of our area and to support the AABY dog park in Kingwood. Why not enjoy a fabulous lunch created by Chef Daniel, check out the great silent auction (chaired by yours truly) and watch the dogs and fashionable people strut their stuff down the runway? The show is emceed by Tribune owner Cynthia Calvert who always keeps the jokes coming and the event fun. All clothes worn by both the dogs and people are for sale… last year I bid on the hottest leopard boots for myself and an explorer outfit for my dog Jake - he’s only wore it once, but it was really cute! Tickets are $35 and available by calling the effervescent and beautiful Kay Pass at the AABY Thrift Shop at 281-358-4866. Roz Curry is hosting a Premier Jewelry party on Tuesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. Want to come? Call Roz 281-852-7859. Almost all of the elementary schools are hosting a Welcome Back Luncheon for their teachers on Thursday, Aug. 21. Would like to donate something nice to a teacher? E-mail me and I’ll get it to the right school… every school would love to give a gift to every teacher, but we don’t have the resources to do this unless the entire community pitches in… Gift card, coupon or gift basket; you donate it, I’ll get it to a teacher… This email address is being protected from spambots.
