The Jesse Jones Park Volunteers (JJPV), a nonprofit organization that supports the mission of Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center, is holding a first annual “Picnic in The Park” event Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be an opportunity to not only raise money for the volunteer group via concession sales, but also provide a unique opportunity for the community to enjoy an afternoon of food and activities in the park.

This event will be centered around Juneteenth, with music, poetry and art provided by local schools and organizations. In addition, the volunteers will be selling hot dog combos and ice cream, as well as plants, literature and Jones Park merchandise. The hope is that this will eventually grow into a large annual event like Pioneer Day and NatureFest, which are often attended by more than 1,500 people each year.

All programs and events at Jesse Jones Park are enjoyed by the public free of charge.
