The year 2020 has been a year like none other, and the East Montgomery County Improvement District’s remaining events of the year will be, too – in a very positive way. EMCID has revamped its Fall Extravaganza and expanded A Holiday to Remember, which centers around an ice-skating rink. Due to the density of crowds at EMCID’s parking lot where the annual fall event is typically held, the decision was made instead to have a free drive-thru event at Randall Reed Stadium. Open Thursday, Oct. 29 from 5-8 p.m., vehicles will enter the stadium parking lot located at 21360 Valley Ranch Parkway in New Caney and receive candy before driving through a 180-foot tunnel of spooky fun and adventures. While the temperatures may have just turned a little cooler, planning is well underway for EMCID’s winter event, A Holiday to Remember. The third annual ice-skating event is staying in the Valley Ranch Town Center but moving indoors to 22296 Market Place Dr. between Hobby Lobby and Cinemark.

“We are so excited about the opportunities this 100,000-plus square-foot space gives us,” said Frank McCrady, EMCID president/CEO. “We think everyone will find something to entertain their families.”

The ice rink is 42% larger than previous years, accommodating up to 160 people at a time. The event is adding four 97-foot-long snow slides, bumper cars, train rides, classic holiday movies, a nine-hole miniature golf course, a classic car show, and a holiday market. Preview night for the market is Friday, Dec. 18. All attractions will be ready for the public Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. Santa Claus is scheduled to make appearances Saturday through Christmas Eve. Pricing remains $5 to ice skate, however, $15 “all-access” wristbands will cover ice skating plus all the other attractions. The classic car show, holiday market, movies and A Visit with Santa are free.

“It’s really been fantastic working with so many companies, from attractions to decorations, to make this an event the entire Houston area will want to come see,” said Kelley Mattlage, EMCID chief communications officer. “We can’t wait for December to get here.” The event ends Sunday, Jan. 3.
