The Blackwood Quartet will be performing "The Gospel Side of Elvis" and also appearing will be Glenda Lynn, the Liberty Opry Band and Comedian "Booger Lee" at an October event at the Liberty Opry.
The Blackwood Quartet includes Joe Armstrong, Mark Blackwood, Chuck Pettyjohn and Casey Shepherd. Blackwood joined his family in the Blackwood Brothers Quartet in 1986 where he sang lead for many years alongside his father, Cecil. In 2012, Mark formed the Fabulous Blackwood Quartet. The group tours regularly and brings the word of Christ through song.
The quartet has had the privilege of performing with many great artists and has received nine Grammys and 27 Dove Awards and has sold over 60 million albums.
Today, the quartet performs several variations of its music, including a very special tribute to Elvis whose early work included a lot of gospel music and was the only category in which Elvis was awarded Grammy Awards during his lifetime.
Lynn is from the Pearland area and performs at many local venues. She has an amazingly beautiful voice and, along with the Liberty Opry Band and Lee, will open for the Blackwood Quartet at this special gospel event.
The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. at the Liberty Opry, 1816 Sam Houston Street, in Liberty. Tickets are $25 and seats can be reserved by calling 936-336-5830 or they may be purchased at the ticket booth on the day of the event. Concession and ticket booth doors open at 2 p.m.
