Saturday, September 21: The Scots/Irish are coming! The 2019 Houston Highland Games have been rescheduled for Saturday, September 21 at the Humble Civic Center Arena and Expo Building, rain or shine, 9 am to 6 pm.
This year, the Houston Highland Games will be a one-day cultural festival featuring traditional Scottish athletic competitions, bagpipe bands and dancers from throughout Texas. Games for youngsters from six to sixty will be a main feature. Many aspects of the games are emblematic of Scotland; drum and bagpipe bands, kilts and heavy events, especially the caber toss, hammer throw and stone put.
While centered on competitions in Scottish heavy athletics, the games include entertainment and exhibits related to other aspects of Scottish and Gaelic culture. Visitors will learn about family history at clan tents, enjoy food and music and shop for Celtic treasures from vendors.
