The Lake Houston Chamber Singers were honored to share the stage with famed performer Hugh Jackman.
The Lake Houston Chamber Singers recently sang backup on stage for Hugh Jackman’s World Tour Houston stop at the Toyota Center. “Hugh Jackman. The Man. The Music. The Show.” made its first United States stop in Houston Tuesday, June 18. The Atascocita-based ensemble is lead by artistic director Joe Weir.
Weir, a recently retired public school choir director, founded and formed the ensemble in 2012 as a European touring group. Upon retirement in 2018, he began to highlight and grow the group with an actual concert series. The group is comprised of talented singers that include several music colleagues and many of Weir’s former students. He likes to refer to them as his “dream ensemble.”
Weir said, “It was great fun and an honor to have been invited to sing back up on a few numbers with Mr. Jackman, a once- in-a-lifetime experience!”
The Lake Houston Chamber Singers will close their 2018-19 Concert Series with a 6 p.m. performance on Aug. 11 at Atascocita Presbyterian Church. The concert is entitled Americana to Broadway and will feature the music of Stephen Foster and Stephen Sondheim, among others.
