Cross off your shopping list for a good cause Why spend your time fighting crowds at the mall when you can shop at Village Learning & Achievement Center? The center has professional kiln equipment that the Villagers use to create a large variety of beautiful and unique ceramic pieces. These one-of-a-kind ceramics are available for sale at the center, many with holiday themes, favorite team names and colorful patterns. According to founder Kim Brusatori, the ceramics program has been in development for about two years, and was initially inspired by the ceramics department at Brookwood, a community for adults with functional disabilities located in Brookshire. Before the program got off the ground, the center received guidance and support from Christy Duncan of The Mudpie Company. “She really gave us a boost, and we still work with her,” said Brusatori. The professional-grade kilns used for firing ceramics were purchased with a grant from the Meadows Foundation, an organization dedicated to assisting people and institutions in Texas. “Our goal is to make this a viable vocation for people with disabilities in the center who wish to do so,” said Brusatori. Executive Director Lisa Prusak feels that shopping at the center’s store is a “win-win.” “What a great opportunity to support a local nonprofit in your community while giving beautiful and unique ceramic gifts to your friends and family,” said Prusak. “Each piece has a story and will give joy to the recipient for years to come.” The “store” at the center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Dec. 22. The Village Learning & Achievement Center is located at 3819 Plum Valley Drive in Kingwood (just behind Firestone on Northpark and across from Stacey's Dance Studio).
