An evening of dancing with community stars Forget about the judges – community stars and their dance partners need donations/votes to win this competition. Dancing for Partners, an event to benefit the YMCA Partners Scholarship Campaign, will be held Thursday, April 23, at The Nathaniel Center located at 804 Russell Palmer Road in Kingwood. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for a silent auction, raffle and – most exciting of all – casting votes for a favorite dance team. The dance contest between 10 community stars will begin at 7 p.m. Individual tickets can be purchased for $20 each and are available at the Lake Houston Family YMCA. The dance team who earns the most votes through tickets or cash donations will be declared the winner. Personal checks and credit cards are accepted. The masters of ceremonies for the evening will be Mike Byers, president of Humble Area Chamber of Commerce and Mike Sullivan, Houston City Council member. Training and dancing with the community star performers are representatives of Club Ballroom, Kingwood Strutters, Lake Houston Performing Arts Center, Kingwood Park High School’s Silver Stars, Rowland/Ballard School of Ballet and Gymnastics, and other professional/private dance instructors. "Each year we raise close to $200,000 for the YMCA Oartners Campaign to assist families who cannot afford YMCA Programs such as the YMCA After School program, youth sports, leadership programs and swimming lessons. One hundred percent of the funds raised goes toward scholarships for our programs,” said Marketing and Special Events Director Carol Sutton. "Families with limited finances may apply for programs through the ‘Open Door’ procedure at the Lake Houston Family YMCA,” she said. The Lake Houston Family YMCA Partners Campaign subsists on three annual fundraising events, along with donations from businesses and individuals throughout the year.
