Beginning March 27, the curtain will open on Centre Stage’s spring show with a double bill performance of “You There in the Back Row” and Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” at the Nathaniel Center in Kingwood. Performances are scheduled for March 27-29 and April 3-5. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoons. A special scout matinee will be held Saturday, April 4, at 3 p.m. “We’re delighted to continue our tradition of giving our audiences two great shows for the price of a single ticket,” said Barry Dean, founder and artistic director of Centre Stage. “The double bill format showcases our diverse talent as well as captures the attention of younger children experiencing live theater for the first time.” Act One sets the stage for a night of high energy with “You There in the Back Row.” Featuring show-stopping numbers from “Hairspray,” “Curtains,” “And the World goes Round” and a special tribute to “The Fantasticks,” members of the audience will embark on a theatrical journey and get a first-hand look at what it takes to be a performer. The show will feature solo performances from several Centre Stage teens. “It’s nonstop fun watching these teens take on some of Broadway’s best-loved numbers,” said Dean. “We’re so pleased to have such an amazing group of young people this season.” Act Two will feature a spectacular adaptation of Disney’s classic fairytale “Sleeping Beauty.” Audience members will relive Princess Aurora’s magical story with music such as “Once Upon a Dream,” elaborate scenery and costumes by Centre Stage, as well as talented performances by Genevieve Couvrey and Sara Reiliey as Briar Rose/ Princess Aurora, Robert Terry and Jarod Croskey-Hardy as Prince Philip. Other featured cast members include Hannah Jesse, Karen Grentz, Joey Trammell, Emily Lawrence, Hope Brice, Paige Manning, Libby Malone, Madison O’Neil, Madison McMurray, Nick Sheppard and Tyler Croskey-Hardy. “Audiences are in for a real treat with this production. Competition was fierce this year as kids auditioned for some of Disney’s most memorable roles,” said Dean. “You won’t want to miss this classic fairytale with a surprising twist on one of the greatest villains of all time.” Centre Stage has been producing musical theatre and teaching children since 1984, and has helped launch successful careers in theatre, film and television for numerous students.
