The Lake Houston Family YMCA announced the addition of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital as the title sponsor for the 20th Annual YMCA Bridge Fest 5K Fun Run and Walk scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4. Additional sponsors include Insperity, Edward Jones, Tejas Toyota Scion, ICON Hospital, The Observer Newspapers, Sharkey’s Grill, Steep Creek Media and The Tribune. Thousands participants will start the 3.1-mile race at the Lake Houston Family YMCA and follow a course down West Lake Houston Parkway, crossing the Roy Lee Shultz Bridge over Lake Houston. After crossing the bridge, participants make one turn and return back to the YMCA. The 5K course is a fast and accurately measured USA Track & Field certified TX 9800 4ETM. Bridge Fest began as a celebration of the opening of the Roy Lee Schultz Bridge, which links Kingwood, Atascocita and Humble. The first race will begin at 7:45 a.m. and is a half-mile event, open to children 6-and-under. Following the half-mile mile race will be a 1-mile race for ages 7-14 years old. This allows the younger runners to race and compete for awards against their own age groups. The 5K Family Run and Walk will start at 9 a.m. All races will use a chip timing system for accurate race results. Proceeds from Bridge Fest support the Partners Scholarship Campaign at the Lake Houston Family YMCA and East Montgomery County YMCA. This year, Bridge Fest's goal is to raise more than $40,000 for the Partners Scholarship Campaign at Lake Houston Family YMCA and East Montgomery County YMCA, which benefits children and families in the area with financial limitations vital services such as YMCA after-school child care, swim lessons, day camp, youth sports and teen leadership camp. Families and individuals can apply for financial assistance by completing an Open Door application at either YMCA.
