If you frequent Facebook, you’ve probably been introduced through your newsfeed to a plethora of videos offering helpful hints and tips. I will admit to watching just a few. Some of them are jaw dropping … a few noteworthy … and some … not so much. But then, that is exactly the pointy point.
My all-time favorites are the food videos and sometimes they reflect exactly what we are having for dinner. Heck, there was one that totally took the mystery out of frozen puff pastry. Actually, let me retract that statement. I still don’t know why it puffs up all high and flaky like it does … but what a fashion statement on a dinner plate! Top your poufy pastry with a little salmon and pesto and you just earned a gold star for best weekday dinner extravaganza.
But back to the crazy hints! The other day I happened across one featuring a lady on a picnic blanket with a large horizontal wedge of watermelon. Unfortunately, her forlorn-looking “sad panda face” indicated she forgot the knife. Not to worry, out of her purse she produced … wait for it … dental floss. After pulling out a long string of floss, she started pulling it through the watermelon between the rind and the fruit and then ran the floss along the length creating lots of slices. You go girl!
The one with the chopsticks was also interesting. Take an empty Coke bottle and place a single cherry on top. Hold the cherry between two fingers resting on the top of the bottle and plunge your chopstick down the middle of the cherry. Just the pit falls into the bottle. Repeat these steps until you run out of cherries and voila! Time to make a cherry pie … perhaps topped with a little puff pastry.
Today I viewed one about the fastest ways to dry your soaking-wet canvas shoes. One option was to fill a couple of socks with rice and tie the end in a loose knot. Now just place the filled socks in each shoe. Next, stand the shoes up vertical against the wall. In about six hours your shoes will be dry. Another way was to crumble newsprint in a ball and insert into each shoe. Those shoes were deemed dry in just three hours. I forgot the other two suggestions, but you get my drift. Or you could just keep a spare pair of flip flops in your car or tote bag and not get your canvas shoes wet.
There is also one which involves lots of uses for Scotch tape. I will share only a couple with you. The first one showed a lady about to turn her lights out for the night. Just before doing so, she looked in the mirror at her 20-year-old face noticing the frown lines between her eyeballs. She applied a couple of inches of Scotch tape vertically to the area. In the morning the youngster decided she had flattened out the offending wrinkles. Yeah right!
My jaw dropped on my desk at the one with the solution to solving age-related wrinkly necks. Just apply a couple of long strips of Scotch tape horizontally to the back of your neck while stretching your skin. Takes the neck wrinkles right away. But be sure and wear your collar up. They guarantee it will take 10 years off your next photograph. I dunno … that one kinda weirded me out.
I think I will stick to watching the food videos. If you are my Facebook friend, I just shared another installment about desserts and puff pastry! Feel free to share..
