In September 2020, while off duty with his family, Deputy Jason Cearly with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office was traveling on the North Freeway during a severe rainstorm with flooding occurring on the roadways.
He observed a vehicle drive into the rising floodwaters and become disabled with the driver stuck inside. He immediately exited his vehicle and waded into the rising water, where he removed the vehicle occupant and got her out into higher ground.
While in the process of assisting this person, two more vehicles entered the flood waters and became inoperable. He immediately went to the aid of the occupants and got them to safety.
Without regard for his own safety, Corporal Jason Cearly took it upon himself to help others who at the moment could not help themselves. He displayed bravery and a dedication to service of others that serves an example to follow.
