William (Bill) Wiener, age 68, of Kingwood, Texas died on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 due to complications from bladder cancer originally diagnosed in 2007. Bill was born January 12, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, to Samuel and Nettie Wiener. Bill graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1959 and was a Distinguished Military Graduate from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY in 1963 after which he entered the United States Army as a commissioned officer. Throughout his 8 years of active duty he was Captain of the 1st Cavalry Division and 197th Armed Helicopter Company, helicopter Instructor Pilot, served in combat in Vietnam, and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 19 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart, among others. Bill was honorably discharged and retired from Military Service in 1971. Bill was married to Donna Hockett in 1978 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, moved to Kingwood, TX in 1979 where daughter Samantha was born in December of 1986. Over the years Bill enjoyed careers in sales and management with various dental supply companies and medical universities. One of Bill's most cherished "careers" was his time as a stay-at-home dad for Samantha during her formative years, preparing him for his final and professed favorite profession as a teacher of special-needs children at Kingwood Middle School in Kingwood, Texas, from January 2004 through April of 2010. Bill had said he would never retire, but reluctantly did so prior to the Fall semester of 2010 due to his failing health. Bill always said that of the things that mattered most in life, he had won the lottery. Bill was an avid reader, passionate about politics, created beautiful stained glass, and loved cooking, teaching, his big dogs, his home and his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna Hockett Wiener, daughter Samantha Wiener, both of Kingwood, Texas, brother Stanley Wiener of Montvale, New Jersey, sister-in-law Rita Wiener of Traverse City, Michigan, and numerous other in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Nettie and his brother Harry.
