The much anticipated Kingwood Garden Club Home and Garden Tour, to be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 26 and 27 and noon-4 p.m. April 28, will feature a self-guided tour of four Kingwood homes and beautiful gardens plus one special Asian-inspired garden.

This year’s garden tour will feature a tree and plant sale, a raffle and a Botanical Boutique.

The houses have themes, and two of them were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Now restored to splendor, they represent the spirit of “Kingwood Strong.” “Picture Perfect” is a lakefront home filled with beautiful art. This home reveals Kingwood’s natural beauty through a wall of windows. “Tuscany” is an inviting patio home with Tuscan décor inside and out that gives the feeling of harvest time in wine country. “Magnolia House” displays contemporary country charm made popular by Joanna Gaines and her “Fixer Upper” empire. Yes, of course it has shiplap. “French Elegance Circa 2019” exhibits the owner’s flair for French elegance with casual, inviting comfort. The home offers a spacious flow of entertainment areas, a chef-worthy kitchen and a hidden wine room. Last but certainly not least is “Amazing Asian Gardens.” The owners were inspired by a trip to China and have transformed this space into a serene and soothing oasis.

Cathy Owen and Linda Odell are co-chairs for the event. Odell said that all of the vignettes found in the homes will be designed by the Kingwood Garden Club members. “These floral designs are over the top and there will be many unexpected surprises at each home,” she said.

Among the many lovely plants available will be caladiums sold by member Gerri Berens. These are foliage plants that have red, pink or white leaves that will brighten up that spot in a landscape or in planters. The varieties vary in height but most grow 12-24 inches tall. The leaves also vary in size and the combination of colors in different varieties is beautiful.

Odell and other club members are looking forward to sharing this special event with the community as it continues to rebuild. “After such a devastating year last year after Harvey, the Kingwood Garden Club hopes that this year’s Home and Garden Tour will bring joy to our community and show that Kingwood is back,” she said.

All of the profit from the show is used by the club to allow them to give back to the community with scholarships, tree planting, education programs, donations for Nature Conservation, Garden Therapy at Brookwood, children’s programs at the Kingwood Library, planting a butterfly garden at one of the elementary schools, and floral design and horticulture workshops. A couple of years ago after the last Home and Garden Tour, the club was able to donate a substantial amount to Mercer Botanic Gardens after they flooded.

Tickets are on sale at Warren’s Southern Gardens, Kingwood Garden Center, Wild Birds Unlimited, Alspaugh’s or by contacting a member of the Kingwood Garden Club. Pre-event tickets are $25, during the event $30, and single site $10. Children under the age of 12 are free.
