After taking their first loss of the season on the road at South Houston, the Humble Wildcats football team looked to get back into the win column against Pasadena Memorial.
In a hard-fought affair that was tied into the fourth quarter, Humble did just that, getting two fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away from the Mavericks 35-21 to improve to 4-1 and 2-1 in District 22-6A play.
Humble’s defense got the team started early in the game; on the first Pasadena Memorial series, Reggie Jones recovered a fumble by Memorial quarterback Sabian Smith.
Four plays later, Isaiah Robinson scored from six yards out to put Humble up 7-0.
On the next series, the Mavericks moved the ball into Humble territory, but the Wildcat defense forced another turnover, this one a fumble by Jacob Hadley.
This led to another four-play drive and another touchdown, this one a 14-yard run by Austin Demas.
Though down 14-0, the Mavericks refused to go quietly. Two, big, special-teams plays led to a pair of three-play, four-yard drives which tied the score at 14 at halftime.
The teams then split a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. But after an interception set the Wildcats up at the Pasadena Memorial 47, the Wildcats went to work in the fourth.
The drive took nine plays, and was capped off by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Chase Pena to Justin Lawson.
After a Memorial missed field goal, the Wildcats got it back at the 20 and drove for the clinching score as Chase Pena scored from 5 yards out to seal the win.
