It was a beautiful two days at Lake Houston Wilderness Park when Eagle-candidate Tyler Wadell put together a somber yet brilliant flag retirement ceremony Aug. 17. Tyler’s father, Bryce Wadell, presided over the well-attended gathering.

Air Force Academy graduate and Vietnam veteran combat pilot Lt. Colonel John Heimburger gave opening remarks and Scout London Stewart honored the departing flags and crowd with a perfect rendition of “Taps.”

The next day, Scout campers and local volunteers from Northeast Harris County completed the construction of 10 hand-crafted, wooden frames that will serve as housings for the park’s newly procured archery targets. Wadell was responsible for the design and solicitation of material donations, as well as the overall execution of this project.

Wadell is a member of Troop 674, sponsored by the Atascocita Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
