After claiming another District 21-6A championship and advancing two rounds in the Texas high school football playoffs, the Atascocita Eagles season came to an end Friday night at NRG Stadium.
It ended at the hands of a Texas high school football powerhouse, as the Katy Tigers beat the Eagles 44-0 to advance in the playoffs.
It was a tough night for the Eagles from the get-go, as the Tigers wasted little time in jumping all over the Eagles.
On the Eagles’ first possession, after a first- down reception by Payton Harden, Jack Roe was intercepted two plays later, and the ball was returned to the Eagles 14.
Two possessions later, after a first-down run by Shannon Junior, Roe was picked off again, and a few plays later Katy had its first touchdown on a 3- yard touchdown pass from Austin Marshall to Michael Matus.
Later, Marshall would throw another touchdown, a 57-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Patrick which made it 17-0.
Before the half ended, Katy added a pick six by Matt Kissamis and two field goals to make the score 30-0, essentially putting the game out of reach.
In the second half, the Tigers added two scores to make the final 44-0; the first of those scores was a touchdown pass to Masen Rivera, and the second score was a touchdown run by Josh Oglesby.
With its win over the Eagles, Katy advances to play North Shore in the Class 6A Division 1 Region 3 finals this coming Saturday afternoon at NRG Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Eagles head into the offseason off another district title and playoff run, and will have the task of replacing key seniors including Roe, Harden, Aaron Durham, Travian Blaylock, Daryion Taylor and many others.
