Kingwood artists Stephanne Martin and Sam Caldwell will provide demonstrations of ceramic and watercolor art. Called “Art Fight of the Decade,” the exhibit will open at Martin Galleries, 1570 Kingwood Drive, Saturday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m.
There will also be music by Pamela Saxon and George King. Both demonstrations and other art items by John Martin, Stephanne Martin and Caldwell will be donated, with all proceeds going to Texas Children’s Hospital.
Ceramist Stephanne and her metallist husband John opened Martin Galleries in 1997 in The Heights and moved the business to Kingwood in 2015.
Stephanne works with high-fire clays, unique glazes and natural oxides to create timeless artifacts. John works in figurative art, but is perhaps best known for his functional art furniture, where his designs are founded in timeless styles ranging from Shaker to traditional.
Caldwell, a well-known Texas artist, has been a Kingwood resident for more than 30 years. Caldwell was named Texas State Artist for 2004 and CCA Conservationist for 2015. He was recently named to the Texas Maritime Museum Wall of Fame. Caldwell’s website is samcaldwell.com.
